Dear David, many people don't know that the flat sign denoted by the letter B in small case is actually an abbeviation for the word 'bemole', which in French means softened, perhaps.

Thanks for that. On L Hand I play half diminished with the bass in the outside row, e.g.- B half diminished is Dm triad, as is, but with B (i.e., the B that is the 3rd of G, on the counter bass row) Dm over B is another way one can see it. It's always good to have alternatives though. Best wishes from Scotland.
