1:09 Arizona says it’s a midwestern state thing.
1:14 Nebraska says it’s an eastern state thing.
1:19 Rhode Island says they don’t use it.

In classic English literature, dinner = lunch (mid day), supper = dinner (evening). But I’ve never heard anyone actually say supper

Fun fact: In Australia, "dinner" and "supper" are completely separate meals. Dinner is a big meal you have at some time around 6-7PM, while supper is a small meal you'd have right before bed. Although, most people I know don't have supper unless you go on a camp or something lmao.

Southerner here. We say supper for evening, dinner is either but it’s which ever is a more important meal. So we have Sunday Dinner at noon, but supper is later in the day.

Just different ways to call it. Like soda, coke, and pop.

Southern grandparents say supper, that’s a dining room, family time event, and dinner is something quick watching tv, everyone’s in a different room not too serious, but Supper we would eat at 4:30 and dinner at 6-7.

I agree with Maryland, New Jersey, Indiana, South Carolina and Maine. In England supper is about 7pm-8pm and dinner is 5pm-6pm

Maine - In my hometown, we generally say Dinner (11am - 1pm) and Supper (4pm - 7pm) instead of Lunch and Dinner, but I've heard both. It's based on how much/what we're eating. If we eat 2 big meals like they did back when the state was cosumed with farming and logging, it's dinner and supper. But if the 1st meal's just a sandwich, it's lunch then dinner. If the light meal's at night, it's still dinner/supper depending which house you're in. When in doubt, always call the later meal supper.

in Quebec, dinner is the midday meal and supper is the evening meal.I know my French Canadian grandparents who lived in NY always said the meals were breakfast, dinner, supper.

I always heard that dinner is classified as the biggest meal of the day. So breakfast can technically be dinner and so can lunch and supper. Supper is simply the third meal of the day.
