Machinist here; the scribe is an old school way to layout metal projects. Use bluing and then scribe after it dries. Nice bright and slender lines to follow.

On the combo square, the needle like thing is a scribe for use on soft metals.

I still have my dads old craftsman screwdrivers. Love those things. Dont think ill ever get rid of em.

Tool tip: the multiple screw drivers are stored in my bucket apron and because the handle is face up, I notched out either a straight line or X to label them. I also applied yellow or white paint to pop the ID of the driver.

The pin in the empire combo square is a scribe for marking your measurements. Thanks for sharing all the great tools!

I have a 40 year old Disston crosscut but I haven't used it in 30 years. My three Japanese pullsaw i use all the time. Quiet, efficient, accurate.

Having learned carpentry at my father's side in the early 60's, the hand saw was always a go-to tool, so I've had my Stanley for decades. Never used it for Ripping, always used the radial arm for that (and yes, I still have my rebuilt 1957 Craftsman 10" Radial Arm), but it cannot be beat for board cross cuts, especially 1 x 4ish trim, unless I am using it's little cousin, the Miter Box.

One nice thing about aluminum speed squares is that if it isn't exactly square, you can make it so with a miter saw.

23:08 The hand saw is great for quick tasks when you don't feel like setting up or pulling out the power tools. Mine is my go to for breaking down scraps for trash.

I've found that Bessey Clamp set on sale for around $15 on multiple occasions. I've stocked up each time.

I would agree about the hand saw if I didn't get so much grief for whenever I needed to make 1or 2 cuts and my wife's work/sleeping schedule most days they do not line up.thats when I'm pleased to have a good hand saw at the ready

I happen to have my grandfather’s combo square along with his hand made carpenters tool box and all his hand tools. One of my most prized possessions!

I have a few carpenter squares in various sizes, including the small Milwaukee one you showed. I didn't own a single one until 5-6 years ago. I watched an episode of Ask this old house. Tom Silva showed his square and all the things it could be used for. I was hooked. Now I use them for every job.

Over the past 2 years, I've grown fond of using headlamps. Just used it yesterday while turning off the breaker to fix a light switch. Super useful for doing things at night or in a dark corner but also frees up your hands from using a flashlight. More compact and no adjustment compared to an external light.

Fastcap makes the best tape measure. Every line, even the 16ths is labeled. It greatly reduces errors and they are cheap. They even make left handed, metric, and mixed tapes.

You asked who would prefer to buy a hand saw rather than save and buy a circular saw. Me. I’m that guy. Bought that exact Stanley saw and I love it
