Jubilee Line Extension, Part 1: Southwark Station

This is the first film of a series depicting some of the most extravagant and enormous stations of the London Underground: The Jubilee Line Extension.

The Jubilee Line originally terminated at Charing Cross. In 1999 the Jubilee Line Extension gradually opened 11 new stations from Green Park via Waterloo, Canada Water, Canary Wharf, North Greenwich, all the way to Stratford. Many of these stations are completely new.

The design of the new stations is quite different from anything else that can be seen on the London Underground. They are futuristic, spacious and their designed is characterized by metal and concrete finishes.

This short film shows Southwark Station, located in the London Borough of the same name. The station is adjacent to Waterloo East Railway Station (which is again adjacent to Waterloo Railway Station).

Enjoy!

Errata:

The description and captions previously incorrectly stated that the Jubilee Line terminated at Green Park before the extension. It actually terminated at Charing Cross and the extension split off the existing line at Green Park.

It’s soooo perfect at 1:34, One train pulls in and one pulls out!

The former Jubilee Line terminal is actually Charing Cross. When the JLE was opened, the Charing Cross platform became unused (but remains accessible to Jubilee Line trains, just not for passengers) and the new route deviated just after Green Park.

if the elizabeth line went there, would waterloo, southwark and waterloo east be one station

That was pretty short. I expect the next part to be longer and focus on more than 1 station at a time.
