Oh no, I've never heard of these, the names anyway, but I think I've seen those cases before. 😛 I hope your fast action will save any more damage to your trees and the neighbouring ones. Be safe though, no ladders and masks for insecticides! And thank you for sharing, we have loved evergreens too so good to know. 😘

In Germany our conifer forests are being decimated by bark beetles - our son is a sustainable forester - he could work 24/7 felling diseased trees. It's climate change the cold would have killed the beetle but with our warmer winters they live to eat another day. We need to plant a bigger variety of trees to make our forests sustainable (so I am informed). Have a good and peaceful weekend.

Hi Sue, oh my sorry to hear about this! I’ve never heard about it. Be sure to be careful about the “dusting” that sounds dangerous if it’s a chemical! Hi Audie too! You do have nice neighbors! 😺🙏Pat

Now I need to go look at my sister's evergreen trees and see if she has bag worms. Ugh. I noticed she had a lot of needles on the ground when I was over there the other day. Thanks for the info Sue

My mother successfully used Sevin dust. This was in Oklahoma City. They also make Sevin granules. It's inexpensive. I'd wear a mask if using the dust. If I lived near you, I'd come over and do it.

Sue, I believe bag worms also affect other types of trees as well. The past couple of years they have been on my Cleveland Pear trees. I have been able to cut off the affected branches.

You’ve probably already read about this but thought I would pass it along
Attract Natural Enemies
Bagworms have plenty of natural enemies, including parasitic wasps and birds. Attract the predatory beneficial insects by planting daisy and aster family members near affected trees. Shasta daisies (Leucanthemum X superbum) and Frikart's asters (Aster x frikartii) both work as attractants while adding pops of color in yards throughout USDA zones 5 through 9. Placing birdbaths, feeders and birdhouses near bagworm-infested trees helps attract birds that will feed on the caterpillars.

First things morning Audie XOXO
Thank you for the information! It’s going to be a spring like day here so I’m going out to inspect my large spruce, that hasn’t been looking so good.
I know pest infestation are hard to deal with. You do have knowledge (good eye Jane!) and concerned neighbors on your side. Like you we have a lot of national forest land here. So makes it really difficult to deal with infestations but thankfully our forestry department seems to be diligent.
Yes, you do have wonderful neighbors! Sounds like you live in Xanadu as do I. Fortunate we are. Btw the picture of the outside of Jane’s house is lovely. Looks like she lives in a beautiful old home!

I've never heard of a bagworm, I can see how deadly they are to your trees. Eek is right! You're a tree lover like I am and I'd be upset as well. Fingers crossed and good luck with getting rid of the buggers!

What do you get when you put human DNA into a goat?
Screaming kids and a lifetime ban from the petting zoo.

We had them growing up here in Ohio. Dad would have us pull them off and put in a old coffee can. He would then burn them. Said only way to be rid of them.

Sue, I have heard the high pitched squeal during your videos. Just for a second or two most videos. Never thought to mention it because it wasn't a big deal🙂tfs have a good day.

I'm sure Neem oil is the best to spray your trees, evergreens will not regrow needles, you will need to cut the bald branches off before the worms get lower.

I love your new background! Not loving those bagworms though! I have never heard of them before and hope I never have to deal with them!

Thank you so much for sharing this information! I have them on my tree and had no idea what they were. My tree is well over 10' tall so I won't be able to get them all pulled off either :(

Oh Sue yes I hate bag worms! I had never heard of the either. I also learned the hard way, we lost many trees. My neighbor came over and said oh you have a bag worm infestation. Ugh I was from California never knew about them. Unfortunately they are in Oklahoma and we learned how to kill them to late.

It's the larva that sucks the sap from the needles much like an Aphid on a rose bud.

Also - I think the most FUN way to deal with the powdering of the trees would be to have a cute little hot air balloon, like the one in the background, and sprinkle it down from above. LOL You need someone to make you a powdering drone! ;)

I’m not suggesting that would cure the problem by any means. Just something to keep in mind as you landscape. I think Audie will be on team birdbath! 😊

We recently lost 4 old trees that cocooned our balcony. Just heartbreaking, so I understand. But hopefully your trees will be OK.
