Hello Marlow, I’ve been shopping very thoroughly for my next rope, even charting specs. As a residential/commercial climber, i see every kind of climb imaginable every month, and can wear out a few 200’ 24-strand hanks per year on natural crotch work. I really want a rope which can do it all and the legendary abrasion resistance and durability of classic 16-strand ropes piqued my interest, but I don’t like the bulk at 13mm, and stretch is a touchy topic. It seems that 16 strand lost favor for bulkiness and toothed ascender damage, but I rarely ever use toothed ascenders (foot locker). Ropes are personal like shoes, except more difficult to return to the store. I ordered a 22’ hank of Typhoon to try on and I hope it fits. The Typhoon specs look like a real sweet spot for toothless production tree climbing: thinner than classic 13mm ropes, but a little thicker than 11.7 double braids for those who are over 200lb and who climb on a zigzag. The stretch looks like a sweet spot between blue moon and Tachyon, and it’s CE rated to help protect us from a ~4’ fall. P.S. Tachyon watch out, that Marlow Maverick 24-strand rope is coming for you.
