SSRIs and SNRIs (antidepressants) can do this too! It's quite common with Sertraline

Please, as a doctor, make a note in videos like this that there are things OTHER than recreational drugs that cause this, too. I know to you that’s probably obvious but to the general public it sometimes is not

Please don't tell everyone this without adding other conditions can dilate eyes. I've had several bouts of MS related optic neuritis, which damaged one of my optic nerves so badly I'm legally blind but since my eye is OK, just not the nerve, my eye keeps trying to see and as a result it's super dilated. Things like stroke and brain injuries can cause this too.

Not exactly okay to falsely accuse people of this as a doctor.

A doctor should not be making posts like this, very "war on drugs" coded. First: eyes rarely dilate that wide. Dilated eyes can be from a variety of conditions and medications as well as hallucinogens and illicit substances. Additionally it's inappropriate to list one photo for that many substances at a time - Those all look visibly different and vary by dose. Psychiatric conditions can also sometimes cause dilated pupils. A licensed medical professional should know the importance of these distinctions and the social impact prior to making a post.

Edit: please remember it is well within your right as a yt viewer to report these shorts as medical misinformation. He needs to learn to make better content if he wants to claim it's educational.

My son's eyes did that after his pediatric ophthalmologist dilated his eyes. The effects of it lasted over 3 days. It was weird and creepy. I was glad when it finally went away.

Doctors should not be allowed to be on social media in this capacity. Incredibly unprofessional.

Don’t generalise dilated pupils please. I am very near sighted (just as many others) and without glasses on, my pupils will dilate to allow more light into the eyes so I can see as well as possible.

Chart contains incorrect info - Opiates constrict pupils - this chart says they dilate which im almost certain is incorrect. Opiate withdrawal might cause pupil dilation however.

It can also be caused by a concussion or migraines.

NEVER in the history of EVER has any opiate or any kind of lab created opioid for that matter cause dilated pupils. Withdrawal from opiates and opioids, however, can cause the pupils to dilate and even then depends on the degree of physical dependency that the person is dealing with. That's the biggest beef that I have with the movie "requiem for a dream", missed the mark with that one.

She said her meds did it. Why are you talking about drugs? Atypical antipsychotics or mood stabilizers / SSRIs can easily do this. She's not on drugs 🤦‍♀️

And... mental problems. Had almost non stop dilated pupils because I was in a very bad time in life, had people thinking I did drugs in school, wasn't fun so please talk about more causes ;-)

Also, my son's eye is permanently like this because he was hit in the eye by a boomerang when he was 6. He's now 33. The impact broke the sphincter muscles in his eye and it will never dilate. It's developed a cataract.
He's been accused of taking drugs because of it. Not every person with this is a drug user. Posts like this don't help. 😠

My youngest daughter's pupils have been dilated since she was, maybe, 6 years old. The ophthalmologist says that happens to some people. NOT always because of drugs or a neurological issue! 😐

Opiates (which include heroin…) do not dilate your pupils in any circumstance.

Anybody notice the "opiates (prescription Painkillers)" is printed under dilated pupils---but all of the actual pain killers are listed individually under pinned pupils. 🤔fishy.

My eyes just randomly do this and lots of people think im on drugs when im as sober as can be

Yes, there are several prescription meds that do this, such as some SSRI’s and anti seizure meds.
