Mark Giordano Wins Norris Trophy As NHL’s Best Defenceman

Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano took home the Norris Trophy for best defenceman, beating out Victor Hedman and Brent Burns.

Gio was without a doubt the best defenseman in the League this season and it wasn't even close.

So nice to finally see him get some recognition for the years of hard work and great play he's put in.

So happy for him. Such a great story. Undrafted, went to the KHL and back again and rose up through the ranks. There was never a spotlight on him, unlike some of the other guys that get the award. Hard for anybody not to love this, regardless of your allegiance.

Never mind the offensive production, which I've always found kinda stupid that some past Norris winners only won because of, but the most telling stat to me is +39. If your'e a 1st line D-man in the NHL, you're matched up against the opposition's 1st and 2nd lines every night, so to end up a plus at all is very good but +39 is spectacular. After all it's the award for best defenceman, not a forward in disguise who plays mediocre D.

what a joke brent burns is a candidate over morgan rielly his plus/minus or defensive play wasn't even that good this season he only had points. none of the less at least some got it that actually deserved it.
