It's cathartic to hear you talk about this. As collectors, we get emotionally invested in these dolls, so it hurts when someone preys on that.

I've been saying this for years. I'm so glad that someone who is bigger in the community is speaking up. I have seen so many people spend money that they don't have because of fomo and it's just not worth it.

To me, scalpers and resellers wouldn't be as big of an issue if it weren't for the "I want it, I got to get it now!" mentality that's become increasingly common in the doll community in recent years.

As someone who has started exploring the second hand market last year or two, I think what keeps me from paying scalper prices is my personal "20-30" rule. As well as reminding myself that just because I can buy anything I want, doesn't mean I should.

Unfortunately, I’ve noticed this isn’t just in the doll market. I would like to mention. I’ve noticed this also with hello Kitty, who is a very popular brand apparently. People end up buying for example a lot of hello Kitty blankets and don’t leave anything for anybody else which is really sad. What ends up happening is if they don’t sell the product they end up returning it just FYI. I highly recommend do not buy any item at an really high price. Just wait and see if they make more or if it gets returned.

Resell price to me so will always be a joke like how come this Barbie with Swarovski crystals and metal accessories 20 years liters is now about half her retail sales price but these random ones with paper thin clothing can go up to 200 bucks

At the end of the day is us collectors that determine the prices and we should just learn to let things go when you know they aren’t worth that much objectively speaking

Doll collecting is really a lesson in patience, I’ve never bought from a scalper because like I know someday I’ll be able to get that doll I really want it’s just waiting for that bubble to burst

i think sometimes doll collectors fail to realize that mattel, mga, etc are not our friends. they aren't actually worried about us, and what we want from dolls. they just want money at the end of the day and instagram comments will never change that. this is such a good video

You're literally the realest person in the doll community. The FOMO is definitely allowing the resellers to keep taking advantage of us when its just not worth it over a doll :/ Thank you for calling it out!

I totally agree with everything you said. I have told so many people to stop buying the cash dolls on ebay & mercari and eventually they will drop their prices closer to retail but what do I know lol.

Patience is key, I've gotten GREAT deals on dolls just by waiting years for a seller's offer on ebay or keeping a consistent eye on websites where it may pop up. You might miss it the first time. Even the second time! But hype for a product or brand, in most cases, doesn't last forever and there will be better prices in the future. 🙂💓 Great video following all the discourse recently, Bricks! xoxo

Yesss! I really wanted Elvira, and she sold out immediately when she was released and I was so mad about that because I knew it was resellers with bots set up to buy them out. Now I'm biding my time until I either find her, or just never do and I'm ok with that. I will not buy from resellers who scalp them away from everyone. At the end of the day, it's fun to collect, but it is just a thing to have and not really necessary. I still have so many Monster High dolls that I've collected over the years to enjoy.

It’s the exact same issue in the other collector space I’m in, Warhammer 40k. Podcast bros swoop in with their bots and buy limited edition things (books in particular) to resell, everyone throws a fit, the resellers make bank, nothing changes. In that space I wouldn’t expect a change because Warhammer players by definition have more money than sense, but hopefully doll collectors can handle it more constructively.

If we don't buy from resellers they don't win. I collect action figure, but it's the same thing. I will NEVER PAY MORE THAN RETAIL! I also hate to see the flippers in store. Good video! Always speak your mind.
