After watching the trailer for Clockwork Revolution I can definitely understand the accusations but it also seems like it got its own story and ideas as well. BioShock Infinite doesn't get to be the only Late-1800's America Steampunk game out there just cause it came first

I feel like the Jeese merch sale at the end shows that he had a past in mattress or used car salesmanship at one point. Absolutely love it!

Tolkien's works have already been bastardised to a ridiculous degree and its only going to get worse.

Thought for sure that lamp was spelling out Morse code:
"Jesse was born to make used car sales commercials."

_"No, Embracer, you were supposed to be the chosen one! You were supposed to shame the exploitative publishers, not join them! Bring balance to game development, not leave it in darkness!"_

I think it's more a case of a genre's "visual language" + certain themes and social issues. Both are steampunk with the accompanying art style of that genre's most know era, and both feature government endorsed paranoia and possibly racism. Both are set in a colorful, slightly cartoony city.

"We know we need to be exploiting LOTR"
God I hate that so very much. Would Tolkien have really been ok with this?

Great video as always but I was not prepared to laugh that much at the ending 😆

Honestly, my brain went to "Outer Worlds meets Singularity" when I saw Clockwork Revolution. Sci-Fi with a Gilded Age aesthetic isn't uncommon, but that plus time travel may just be what's causing this connection. We shall see how deep this goes.

Ending was amazing Jesse I was not expecting that at all!

"Exploitation" is a word that could describe Boromir's intentions, Sauruman's intentions, the likes of Grima Wormtongue, and in the nicest sense of the word, the Dwarves of Moria.

Embracer group is really embracing the wrong cast of characters from this epic.

the trailer thing went into my favourite genre of Internet drama, where someone says things are so similar it must be stolen but then the examples they show are barely alike, outside of like a similar setting.

Two side things about Embracer to possibly ease to worry on this: The CEO of Embracer is Swedish and speaks English as a second language. The word Exploit means "make full use of and derive benefit from", the feeling of "it's always nice to hear the word exploit" comes from the connotation of the word, not the denotation. ESL speakers don't always have the back knowledge to step around that.

The second thing, and I think Jesse maybe should have covered this because he is the one who specifically mentions Gollum, but Embracer bought LotR rights in late 2022, Gollum started being worked on in 2019. Embracer collects residuals from that, but aren't in any place to control the development or release of that game. The quality of that game and the ownership of the rights by Embracer aren't entwined. It's akin to blaming James Gunn because you don't like the new Flash movie.

Clockwork Revolution also gave me strong Bioshock Infinite vibes, there's no doubt.
But then there is also Arcanum, a game that has pretty much created this vibe (Steampunk & high fantasy) in the first place.

6:05 I had NO clue you had merch lmao, I think this is the first time in 5 years I've seen any advertisement for this stuff.

It'd only be IP infringement if Irrational was the only influencing force behind Infinite, but in this case, it's more likely that they both draw from similar sources (turn of the century print media).

As far as Clockwork Revolution and Bioshock Infinite, THEY'RE BOTH STEAMPUNK! Like, if you are going to base a game in late Victorian esthetics and technology, you'll have a lot of similar themes, from the way that posters look, to fashion.

I haven't watched the trailer, but looking at those comparison screenshots in this video I don't think they're that similar. Maybe some familiar elements/themes, but I wouldn't call it a copy either.
