Показать описание
This is track 5 from the 1976 album, "Phase 1".
Narrated by Evelyn Morris
Written by Dennis Byrd
Arranged by Albert S. Hadley
"Genesis", was originally composed and produced by Dennis Byrd of Toledo, Ohio. He was only 19 years old when he wrote the song. The song instantly became a hit when he and his young teenage choir performed "Genesis" at the 1973 GMWA Convention in Cleveland, Ohio at the Tuesday Night Musical.
They hand sold over 1500 copies of the song that night after the performance. For several years after that, the Soul Children of New Orleans performed "Genesis" each year at the convention.
It was after the release of the recording that Mattie Moss Clark met Dennis Byrd and was made aware the he composed "Genesis", which was recorded by her and the UNAC Choir. "Genesis" was also recorded by the Gospel Soul Children of New Orleans, LA and the late Albert Hadley, the choir director, was mistakenly given credit as the songwriter. When the producer of the album was made aware of the error they paid due royalties to Dennis Byrd and settled out of court for an undisclosed amount as several thousand recordings were released without crediting him as the songwriter.
It was also made very clear that Albert S. Hadley never claimed to have written the song and that he never turned in the songwriters contract that was given to him for the song. There was a rush to release the recording and it was assumed that Albert was the writer.
