I hired an administrative assistant in my corporate job in November last year and created written SOP‘s based on Carey’s “virtual assistant” course for almost all of her work. The results were unreal! Within months she was doing work that we typically would have paid people earning 50% more money to do. That friend those people up to do other value added work. She loved the structure of them and knowing what we expected of her. This turned my team around in a lot of ways!

It's surprising if you train employees the right way the first time, they remember it and they stick to it. If your standards and expectations keep changing, your employees will just do what they think is best. SOPs provide both YOU and your staff the discipline to stay consistent with how things are done!

When you have your SOP about “How to take orders from customers when the computer is down”, then you do not have to react to that situation and hurry up and instruct all the employees on what they should be doing, you just say, “go read the SOP”. If the SOP does not exist, ask the employee to create it.
