This is awesome. Simon Peyton-Jones (major contributor in the FP/Haskell/language space) mentioned off-hand in a recent interview “Artefacts are temporary, papers are forever” (I might bae that slightly off)
And he’s not event wrong, the research that was developed out of GHC and Haskell has changed the mainstream tremendously. It’s the intellectual contributions that will be meaningful forever.

I write Haskell not because I'm some elite academic that writes and publishes advanced type theory papers.

I write Haskell because I know it will make people THINK i can do any of that.

Its the British accent of programming languages.

As someone who's spent like over 50% of my past week making a game in haskell I 100% agree. The most productive portion of that time has definitely been taking notes on the side for my essay on why ad hoc polymorphism is good actually.

Very well put.

Edit: The only thing I would add is that C is the most balance language between size of your toolset, and efficiency of code.

You can make a smaller toolset than C, but it will not be much better than C itself.

You can maybe create a language that is a bit more efficient than C, but not without some increase in code needed.

Assembly, of course, can be faster than C, which is why I think it should be used for optimizing algorithms that you have already written in C or as inline code.
Assembly produces 3x more code than C.

Therefore, write in C, optimize in assembly.
