I wish there would be another season, and a much longer one, that follows up with Hira and Kiyoi a few years after the end of the movie. Both men are so damaged in their own way and just can't manage to speak clearly and openly with one another and truly listen to what the other says. They are clearly soulmates but are in their own way.

I fully believe Hira's parents physically and verbally abused him as a child. He automatically apologizes for everything when he senses someone is the least bit annoyed and is always flinching even though Kiyoi has never hit him. His parents were giving him money to live on but they never called, visited, didn't show up for high school or college graduation, didn't show up when he was in the hospital and were going to allow the rich aunt to take his childhood home and put him on the street.

We know Kiyoi was ignored once his half siblings came along and is desperate need of real love and attention. He needs to help Hira see him as a man and not as an idol or god to be worshipped. He's begged Hira many times to see him as a man but it is still something they need to work on. Hira probably feared his parents and needs someone to look up to, so he's transferred that to Kiyoi.

I love how their relationship revolves around there being no second and how they're both actually so deeply into the other's agendas, but in such different ways, smh they succeed to slowly straighten their misunderstandings. It's unique since Hira actually has such an alienated perspective, while being the first obsessed one and suppressing his wishes in the name of keeping Kiyoi on a pedestal, especially because he brainwashed himself into this idolization because of his low self perception and fear of becoming monstrous once he indulges. At the same time you'd think Kiyoi is someone who'd keep an earthly mindset, but he's trying to pull out exactly this part of his obsession to come out during the movie. Their world view is so different

Я когда смотрела, сильно прониклась этой парой. Они такие разные и такие одинаковые одновременно.
Они неловкие, милые, трогательные. Сломленые и как они друг друга чинят. Собирают свой мир, словно пазл.
Ребята прекрасно сыграли. Спектр эмоций при просмотре от искренней радости до слез переживаний.
