1. Yes, someone in the world was eating tomatoes while others were not. We have traces as far back as 700 A.D. dealing with the Aztecs. The tomato is believed to originate from the Americas. 2. Tomatoes are still widely referred to as vegetables in the culinary industry (because they are prepared like vegetables, not fruits). We were referencing them from that cooking perspective. 3. You're right with the Pewter plates, but we are not wrong about the connection with nightshade.

and nobody in Eurasia or Africa was eating tomatoes until the 15th & 16th centuries. Before 1548 No Italian, let alone Roman, cuisine ever included tomatoes.

It certainly wasn't THAT fellow proving tomatoes' benign nature, it was some Meso-american gawds knows when. It was being cultivated by 500 BC. Unless native americans don't count as people...

Thanks for the video, I knew tomatoes were from the new world, but had no idea they were considered poisonous by our silly ancestors for a time (they should have seen the Aztecs eating them without harm).
