I used to listen to Frankly MacCormack religiously every night. Brings back so many memories of my youth. Beautiful even after 75 years on this earth.

I met Franklyn McCormick many years ago in Chicago when he was doing his late night show I was performing Chicago at the Blackstone hotel, as a singer and a pianist and I used to go up to the studio and sit and talk with him and listen to him until the wee hours of the morning he had a beautiful voice and he was a very nice man, I just thought of him .the other day and thought I would look up some of his recordings thank you for sharing them with us brings back a lot of memories. Yeah special segment on his show called The torch is burning and he played all these torch song recordings by various artists, I loved all the music and I love the show it was put together very well and he was certainly a talented man.

My late Father's favorite song arrangement with his favorite poem narrated by his favorite radio personality... Both men gone too soon... I remember the night Mr MacCormack died, wondering why there was no commentary for so long on the then I heard the announcement that this was a tribute to him.... and I cried.... You see, Franklyn was my favorite

If you were out on a date you always knew it was 11:00pm when Franklyn MacCormack came on the radio. Thanks for the sweet memory.

The lyrics (a poem by Mary Carolyn Davies):

Why Do I Love You?

Why do I love you?
I love you not only for what you are,
but for what I am when I am with you.

I love you, not only for what you have made of yourself,
but for what you are making of me.

I love you for ignoring the possibilities
of the fool in me and for laying firm hold
on the possibilities of the good in me.

Why do I love you?
I love you for closing your eyes to the discords in me,
and for adding to the music in me by worshipful listening.

I love you because you are helping me to
make of the lumber of my life,
not a tavern, but a temple,
and of the words of my everyday, not a reproach, but a song.

Why do I love you?
I love you because you have done more than
any creed to make me happy.
You have done it without a word,
without a touch, without a sign.
You have done it by just being yourself.

Perhaps, after all, that is what love means.

~ by Mary Carolyn Davies
