I purchased a 2005 GMC 2500HD with a Duramax diesel engine at a Copart auction. In this video, I introduce the new project and we figure out if I got a good deal.

$3400 is a steal for this truck especially considering you're willing and capable of doing all the repairs yourself. Seeing the clean interior, new-ish batteries, and all the fluids at the correct levels are promising signs about how it was maintained. This truck is definitely worthy of being saved. You could replace every single part on this truck and the cost wouldn't even come close to that of a new 2wd base model 1500 gasser let alone a crew cab 2500 with a diesel and 4wd. Plus its more reliable and way cheaper to fix than a new truck. IMO Chevy already hit their peak with these early 2000's pickups. As you said these trucks hit a sweet spot between being modern enough to be comfortable and powerful, while still being reliable, simple to repair, and not loaded with tons of BS electronics and emissions garbage. I just don't see Chevy ever topping this generation of pickups.

Exactly why I’m hanging on to my 2007.5 2500HD Duramax even with 335, 000 miles! And it’s a southern truck, Zero rust 👍

Love the GMT800 platform, some of the best trucks GM ever made. Perfect balance of comfort and reliability.

I love your channel. No sponsorships and no excessive requests for your viewers to subscribe. Also, I love your straightforward approach and processes when diagnosing issues. Keep it up dude, you inspire me to do my own maintenance on my '16 Silverado 2500 by showing how easy it is.

its hilarious how he always says "it's fun" when giving reasons for building things.

That is a stock driveshaft, fuel cooler and fuel lines tend to rust and leak. Looks like most of the brake lines were replaced, that’s good. Stock tie rods are undersized and likely worn out, will likely need an upgrade to a stronger aftermarket along with the pitman arm. Also the intermediate steering shaft most likely makes clunky sound, replace with newer design. My 2005 is going strong, congrats Waldo!

Waldo, I recently came across your channel. Your video production quality is second-to-none! Thanks for your excellent grammar, clear articulate speech, and thoughtful narration, as well as the lack of electronica noise. I've subscribed and look forward to your new content. I would love to see more projects involving small to medium-sized heavy equipment (if you can sneak it past your spouse, lol).

Sweet deal Waldo. I just picked up a duramax myself at Copart. 06’ LBZ cat eye extended cab 4x4. Way more miles though & I paid more than you. So you got an incredible deal. I’ll try to get a video posted myself in the next week or so. Good luck on the build and that’s a great truck you scored for an incredible good price.

I'm currently frame swapping an 06 Duramax. Same color, regular cab. Bought it with 20k miles in 07. Currently has 110k. Project is now going on 2 years. Life has got in the way.

Great find! LLYs have the largest turbos out of the Duramax family, therefore a larger turbo horn should be installed to keep temperatures down. The EGR valve should also be looked at as that is a weak link too.

My LB7 Duramax has 326K miles and climbing, it's a great platform!

Great buy. My 98 dodge with 550k miles and 06 with 300k i spray my used oil on the frame, doors, rockers, etc. every fall and have zero rust on either after all the years and salt no surface rust even frame and undersides still look new just an idea for your trucks. Enjoying the content! Have a good one!

Love that green color! I have the same year and spec Sierra Duramax. I searched for a time to find a stock truck, rust free, and with just over 100k at the time. Regarding the exhaust, I used a 4" Diamond Eye with muffler. It's barely louder than stock but it really helped the towing EGTs.
