You'd think that at least IGN would load Dicebreaker up with debt and then have it declare bankruptcy like a regular megacorp.

The EA of game journalism. IGN absorbed the hugely popular Neverwinter Nights module site, and in the merge, lost everyone's mods... Fans picked up the pieces and were able to collate the more popular mods, but most were lost to time.

IGN took them over? Well that's your problem right there.

Indie journalist going down in flames, reporting on indie journalists going down in flames 🤔?... Prof., your promotion and kind words for other indie RPG YouTubers - people others might have considered your competitors - is fucking legendary, pinnacle sportsmanship and citizenship! Thank you for your service and leadership to the TTRPG community. ⚔️

Having drifted away from D&D (but thankful for the joy it brought to me and without denying I may go back to it later), I'm all for having news on other games, both indie and not. The strength of any community based on any product (rpg, books, computers, clothes, etc) is the diversity of that product. If only one company dominates the market, you get a monopoly and those are never good for customers. For a hobby that should be very open minded as rpg are (house rules, 3rd party content, etc), that's even more important.
So, I'll definitely follow your channel even if it goes in a suicide missione [sound of ME2 final run soundtrack in the background], but I think it won't come to this. Your channel is a well established one with a solid core of viewers who appreciate your dedication and skill.
Also, thanks for mentioning Seth Skorkowsky channel, I love it and is always a pleasure hearing people speaking well of the guy ^^.

Ziff Davis already sounds like Starjammers villain name.

RIP Dicebreaker. I heard about Blades in the Dark from them.

I like how this video had a well-placed ad for Castles & Crusades from Troll Lord Games. Which is a great alternative to current Wizards of the Coast D&D.

I would love to watch footage of Deathbringer playing Good Society!

Great analysis as always PDM. Glad to see the shout-out to Seth Skorkowsky as he's another of my favorite channels.

A Tragedy, to be sure. I remember amidst the Pandemic, I was working from home a lot, and wanted to play tabletop rpgs, and Dicebreaker had a fantastic video on Solo RPGs that you can play by yourself. I appreciate you covering this, PDM!

I bought the Mothership RPG solely based on your recent video. I will always be a fan of your channel, Professor. Your reviews are insightful, concise and fun. The support you show to other TTRPGs other than the ampersand is a balm to my soul. Rock on!

I'm wondering when these small companies will wise up and realize that not going public and/or not getting bought by a publicly traded company is the only way to avoid getting shut down like this. Sure, the boost in money might be useful, but it also means your days are probably numbered.

I hadn't heard of Dicebreaker before last month. With bigger news sites trying to cash in on nerd clicks, it was inevitable smaller sites would get squeezed out. I mostly get my nerd news from YT channels I like such as this one.

The consolidation of the internet by corporate entities is matching all media sources. It’s a shame as unbiased reporting is turning into one more commercial to sell a product. Good thing there are still places for independent opinion and review. Like dungeon craft.

Back in the eighties when playing AD&D, it wasn't the only TTRPG I played. I also enjoyed Call of Cthulhu, Pendragon, Traveller. Then in the nineties, while still playing D&D, I was also playing Vampire the Masquerade, Cyberpunk 2020, TORG, and time permitting Traveller, Call of Cthulhu... When the OGL scandal became news, I switched the campaign I was working on from D&D to Pathfinder 2E and haven't really followed any D&D news since. We need reporters and content creators that let us know there are more games out there and the table top role playing is not limited to one game, no matter what the you tube algorithm might make you think.

Better to die a hero than live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Im willing to go down in flames with ya. I started my boycott of the beach wizards back during the OGL crisis. Then kept it because they kept showing how terrible they were. Hasbro has not and will not get a cent from me until they earn it. Pinkertons, X-mas layoffs, AI art.... has shown they will likely never be back in my good graces. I have well over $1000 in 5e books on my shelf, and I'll keep playing it, but all new stuff going forward is stuff outside the D&D world.

Keep up the videos.

Ziff Davis, wasn't that the evil megacorp from The Fifth Element?
