It's good to see footage of Chuck when he was still fairly young, driving, smiling, rocking the shades; he was one helluva guy, head and shoulders above the current crop of wannabes...RIP, Mr. Heston...

An underrated gem and now a classic. From Heston's very solid performance to the beautiful enriching score from Ron Grainer and the great many action scenes this was one of my favorite movies and one that stays with you! We always used to theorize that the red lights were Neville remembering how things were in imagination like the multiple phone ringing scene.

That car just looks so, so awesome. A time when American cars looked like American cars!

I was working the other night and listening to this awesome theme by Ron Grainer and looking at the empty street outside and flashed back to this opening. I suddenly didn't want to be the last man on Earth.

When I was a kid and watched Chuck Heston's movies, like The Omega Man, Planet of the Apes, and Beneath The Planet of the Apes I didn't realize he was middle aged when he made them. It wasn't until I saw the 1956 version if the TEN Commandments that I realized how far back his acting carrer went. I heard he was also a campion of both civil rights and the right to bear arms. The way I see it supporting both demonstrates true American values.

That's some pretty good camera quality for 1971

This scene of him driving alone reminds me of the lockdown during 2020 because of covid19.

The director of this movie was Boris Sagal - he was the father of Katey Sagal who played Peg Bundy in Married With Children

In 1971 I was 6 years old ..sitting in lawn chairs at the gulf way drive in ..my parents drove a 1966 Pontiac Catalina blue in color...I remember watching this masterpiece movie..at my age I understood the movie !!! Good and evil ... the next day I went in our backyard and I was Neville...I loved it, because I didn’t need any friends... to this day I kinda live that way !!! I love guns, generators, and I. Think of the FAMILY AS ANTIFA !!!

I never noticed the third dead body on the rooftop balcony (laying on the swing ) at 2:02. Not sure if the toddler died in the mother's arms or was elsewhere when the end came for them.

One more thing: That rooftop is still there at 418 E 8th Street, as is 734 S. Main, which Heston passes at 2:14. I always loved how the camera follows the railing of that rooftop balcony until Heston disappears at 2:18.

Sept. 0, 2021----See that Netflix is doing a series on Y: Last Man Standing. I've got all those issues in one book, but haven't read it. And I remember seeing this movie decades ago, recording it when AMC aired it, WITHOUT any commercials in it.

Taking that Ford XL on the 405 to Santa Ana for a 5pm spin has got to be surreal.

Notice he blows through red lights, stop signs and drives the wrong way on one way streets. When you're the last normal man living on earth, you can do that.

As much as I enjoy the last man on earth, the omega man, and i am legend, i still say that all three of these films have the same scenario that STILL terrifies me to this day. What if you were the last person on earth? What if you were not alone? what kind of unknown abomination shared the earth with you without you knowing it was watching?

Funny how in the 90-s downtown LA looked just the same. pretty sure a lot of the business signs were still there.
