When it's time to start with introducing your baby's first food, you're probably going to have a lot of questions - from how to know when your baby is ready, when to start, what to start with, to how to actually do it and much more. In this video you'll learn all of the essentials to help make the process of starting solids with your baby much easier.

When your baby is ready for you to start introducing solids, they'll show some key signs that will help let you know that it's time to start. Then once you're ready to start, you'll need to consider the method you're going to use. There's baby led weaning (BLW), spoon feeding, or a combination approach. There's quite a bit of debate between advocates of each approach, but all are appropriate and it just depends on what works best for you.

Once you've chosen a method for introducing your baby's first food, it's important to have the right equipment, which you'll also learn about in the video.

You'll also learn tips for safety when feeding solids to babies, and how to deal with things like mess and babies who don't want to eat solids right away.

I hope you enjoy this one!

It was such a relief to hear that 1 or 2 spoonfuls is enough at first. I was stressing so much. Thanks for all your videos, Emma!

Perfect timing and great video as always, thank you!

My little one is almost 6 months, she sits at the dining table with us at lunch and dinner time every day and is showing lots of interest in food. We will be starting with purees and as we gain confidence may add some finger foods.

As a first time Mum all these different developmental stages have been nerve racking (and exciting), but your great videos have made it so much easier and smooth sailing.

Thank you, Emma!

This was so comforting to hear 💜people around you always want to push things further. NO, let the baby do his thing. He got his own pace!

Thank you for your common sense approach, it’s refreshing when an agenda doesn’t seem to be pushed along with the information.

Thank you so much for this video! It honestly helped me so much. There is so much information out there I was really confused. This has simplified it for me and I now know some of the things I was doing wrong, and I feel more confident now about feeding my baby solids :)

We've been doing a mixture of both for our 10 month old. Normally baby food mixed with baby cereal to thicken it up for lunch and some finger foods with dinner (along with more baby food if she doesn't eat all her lunch) She definitely lets me know when she is done with the food

When my baby turned 4 months, her pediatrician said she could be introduced to solids 3 times a day. I didn’t think she was ready. So I waited until she was about 5 and half months. At 4 months I just started adding baby cereal to her milk. She’s almost 9 months now and I still spoon feed her with purées I make from steaming vegetables and blending them with some water until they get to the consistency I know my baby can eat it. It’s a process, as Emma said in the video. And if your baby doesn’t want to eat, don’t stress out! They are just exploring in the beginning. Their main source of nutrition is milk until 12 months of age. So just go with the flow! 🙂❤️

Thank you, Emma! Your videos are better than my pediatrician’s advices sometimes. 🤭

I’m so happy I found this video! My baby is 14 weeks, showing all signs of being ready to eat solids, but this video is the first time I’ve heard that she is not physically capable to eat solids nor should she. Thank you!

4:22 "accidentally" drop the bowl... that's cute. Most of the time they do it on purpose. When I bussed at a restaurant that was super child friendly, they put roll paper on the floor under the high chairs, as well as on the tables (and provided crayons).

Hi Emma I recently started watching your videos they are so good and so informative thank you for sharing it’s so on point 🙌🏻 my baby shows all the sign you mentioned above but she doesn’t open the mouth when I try spoon feed her but if I offer something in front of her she picks up and put her in the mouth . Is it because she hasn’t loose the tongue thrust reflex ? Can you pls answer
