Every second Tuesday, we will be releasing a tech tip video that will give users information on various topics relating to our Storinator storage servers.

In this week's video, Spencer is back to talk about storage clustering with Proxmox - the main way to deploy virtualized environments.

Proxmox is a powerful open-source storage tool that also simplifies your storage management from virtualization to backup.

Spencer will show you how to cluster proxmox nodes, add storage to them and show what an automatic failover looks like. Be sure to watch for more videos in the near future going in-depth on what Proxmox can do for your storage.

Chapters:

00:00 - Introduction
00:21 - Deploying Virtualized Environments with Proxmox
01:03 - Creating/Installing a Proxmox Cluster
02:46 - Setting up High Availability Groups
03:43 - Mounting RBDs into Proxmox
07:03 - Migrating VMs Between Proxmox Nodes
07:55 - Making VM Templates in Proxmox
09:21 - Automatic Failover of VM in Proxmox

In proxmox 8 you don't need all these CLI commands. It's easy to add and configure ceph from the pve UI.

Nice and simple :)
Just missing the "rbd/ceph storage" bit. What's behind the ceph/rbd storage? Probably on one of your ceph storage cluster.

Hello,

Only the RBD section I did not understand. Is that the shared storage what uses CEPH?
And what if I already have a "local-lvm" storage on one node on which I installed a couple of VM's. Can I migrate this into shared storage when I purchae a second of third server?

Kind regards,

Ill have to look in a sec but how can i make a shared drive in proxmox that links back to an existing/established share on my unraid that currently houses all my isos? Or do i have to "upload" them all again for it to show, because as of now it isnt. If i do have to re-upload them all will it duplicate them in the unraid folder? Or will it catch its already there and just link them?

Thank you for this tutorial, it seems easy to do the cluster in Proxmox. One question though, does this Proxmox nodes, needs to be empty before you configure your cluster? can you do it in nodes where there are some VMs running on? I know probably not the best scenario, but just a doubt?

You lost me at RBD...blah blah. I've been working with a small proxmox cluster for several weeks now. It's amazing. I have 5 nodes. I have dual SSDs on each node. Can I use these drives in a CEPH storage cluster for my HA VM? Or do I need 3 additional separate machines for the CEPH ?

I set this up in my cluster 😂😂😂. Turns out 10 year old laptops, cheap ssds, and a shared 1G network= bad performance.
