I can confirm this information is true as I suffer with this condition

The hair pulling is like a very physical visible reaction to boredom and stress and whatever you’re going thru. I can spend a very long time picking in one sitting and not think much of it. Getting mental health together (and different habit training) could help to an extent

I'm always twisting my hair and untwisting it repeatedly. But it still gets ripped out. I dont intend to rip it. Just always have the urge to twist and twirl, but hard. Is it the same thing?😢 I'm tired of it.

I have Trichotillomania (self-diagnosed) and I’m an eyelash picker and occasionally I will pull out my arm hair, my bathroom counter is covered in eyelashes and my eyes have some small spots with less eyelashes.

For anyone with this please know there are so many of us with this condition. You are not alone. We have just learned to keep it secret. I’m in my 40s and have had this since I was young. I use to feel so bad afterwards. I’m kinder to myself now days. It’s only hair. Tattoos, makeup can help. But please know at the end of our days this is only hair and you’re not alone 🌸

For everyone out there suffering from Trichotillomania, you’re not alone.

I have been suffering from this hair pulling condition for many of years. And I will tell you all of what I’ve learned.

Everytime I’ve caught myself pulling, I was either bored, stressed, or sleep deprived. What has helped me is going outside of an environment that feels calming and safe.

Meditation has helped me too, or keeping my hands busy other than on my head. Since I play the piano everytime I have the urge to pull, I practice. Or I play video games because of the feeling of a controller in my hand.

I purchased a keen bracelet that makes me aware of my pulling tendencies. If you don’t want to get the bracelet because it’s on the more expensive route, use gloves. It makes it harder to pull your hair. I have been wearing beanies for years to prevent my hair pulling at the crown of my head.

I don’t get why so many people have it on their scalps. I personally have it but exclusively on my eyebrows and eyelashes. I guess it might be hypocritical to say this considering this is what people say to me which I hate, but I would think it would hurt more to be picked from your scalp. Either way I wish more people would mention this disorder and how it affects your eyebrows and eyelashes more :(

Can it happen by ripping the ends out? I twirl the ends then once it becomes a knot, i rip it out. Sometimes i will roll in a ball once im done. I do it if i have the urge or if there are longer pieces from the strand I grabbed. I've been doing this since I was a kid but years later, it became an everyday accordance. I'm not sure if this just a very bad habit or if it's trichotillomania

I pluck my hair a lot in the past because an auntie complimented my hair was straight so I thought I should pluck the curly hairs

It always feels itchy on the scalp where the "curly hairs" are, and it feels relieving when I pluck it and even more satisfying when I see the rounded end of the hair with the white translucent thing on it.

I also pluck my eyebrows, eyelashes, pubic hair, armpit hair, finger hairs, even leg hair
I have so many scars from the pimples and ingrown hair, also the calluses/warts/hardened skin surface from the plucking

Something I tried was having distraction and keeping both hands busy as long as possible, like knitting, crotcheting, sewing, and even scrolling social media while snacking (yes, I even unlocked the skill to peel sunflower seeds with one hand), it somewhat helps lessening the frequency of hair plucking

Man, I just want to stop pulling my scalp hair
I have body hair. Why can't I pull that instead?
It'll do me more good to pull my body hair than my scalp hair.
I'm gonna start tweezing my leg hair instead from now on
