You know what's crazy, if Nissan would put an actual transmission with gears and switch to rear wheel drive, this car would sell like hot cakes! It has the looks, style and power already!

CVT + Paddle shifters = A very confused me

The Maxima/Murano CVT is surprisingly not awful. Nothing sporty about it, but as James said, on the freeway it's great and if you put your foot to the floor it accelerates faster than a traditional transmission. And it's much more durable than Nissan's other CVTs.

Tbh the CVT sucks but The maxima is a great car to drive the inside is awesome it actually feels like a sport car they have fixed a lot of the cvt problems and I will recommend it to everyone who wants a sport sedan I owned one for two years and I’m still in love with the car

I had one of these a few times as a rental. The cvt wind up and slingshot effect was actually kind of entertaining. Sort of like an 80s big turbo. Not a bad car at all.

I had a 2018 Maxima S as a loaner for about 5 days and actually kinda fell in love with it. (Completely shocked me.) But it drove extremely well imo, very smooth and comfortable. The “zero gravity” seats are just as comfortable as my S class seats too. The base model stereo was ridiculous (seriously it bumped crazy hard for stock, let alone base model) and it was surprisingly fast.

I did a drag against my friend’s 06’ Charger RT and won in the Maxima by a good three car lengths. 0-70 the maxi struggled because of wheelspin and CVT sluggishness. But after 70 it caught up to and gapped the Charger hard. (The Charger was totally stock and I’m great condition with 70k miles. ) despite having a CVT I had so much fun driving the car and really enjoyed my time with it. It was pretty damn fast, quiet, and comfortable. Also the VQ cold start is actually really nice even in the Maxima. I got a whole new respect for them after that.

CVT has its moments. %95 of buyers don’t care and just want the MPg

I had a 2009 Maxima S for my first car. I personally liked it, the CVT and FWD were definitely it’s biggest downfall, because it’s a car that deserves RWD and a real trans, however, it was fairly quick. After all, it had a VQ, which also means it sounded pretty good. I put a cold air intake in and that was enough to give it a primal induction scream. While it’s not a very performance-focused sedan, it was a pretty good first car for me, a young high schooler who liked cars. Overall I really loved the car, and I was sad when I totaled it.

Remember when the Nissan Maxima was an alternative to the Acura Legend. Now, neither of those cars are worth 2 cents. 😒

My moms pathfinder had a cvt and it was so nice to just put your foot halfway down and let it just do what it wants. So smooth and relaxing

For anyone trying to use adaptive cruise control on the highway, here’s my tip for smooth responses to speed changes. I have a Sonata with a 6-speed auto that can shift over to manual gear select. Once you’re ready to set the cruise at 50+ mph, just slide D over to manual select and keep it in gear 6.
When that slowpoke you’ve been pacing gets off the road and opens up your radar to resume from 60 back up to 70, it just adds some throttle to speed back up rather than dropping a gear and adding throttle. It’s changed the way I road trip.

Maxima's aren't sporty anymore. But they are great highway cruisers that can post some great mileage numbers for having a 300 hp V6 in front. I have a 2013 model (previous generation) and I absolutely love it.

You want a sports sedan from Nissan get a Q50. Why would i buy this brand new 40k, when you can pick up a lightly used Infiniti Q50 with AWD 3.7 with no CVT for 20k.
