Payroll is incredibly useful software to save you time and hassle when paying your employees. If you have more than two or three employees, purchasing a payroll software solution will almost certainly make your life easier. Which to choose? In this video, we compare two of the top payroll software on the market: Gusto and Patriot. Both have a variety of features including direct deposit, PCI compliance, and online accounts for team members. But they each have their own merits.

We covered the following in the comparison:
1) Basic Payroll Features
2) Running Payroll
3) Payroll setup and Usability
4) Platform
5) Pricing
6) Support
7) CUE Score
9) Final Verdict and comparison of Gusto vs. Patriot

All the opinions in this video are my own. CUE Marketplace does receive a commission from some of our software, but I am not being incentivized to recommend either Gusto or Patriot.

Nice review. I'd like to hear more about how the 2 software options being compared handle things like 401k, employer sponsored health insurance, FUTA vs SUTU/SUI etc.

1) I get that the cloud software calculates amounts, but did you mention who actually sends payment funds to vendors/agencies/etc? If it falls on the employer, this could easily get the app overwhelming on clients woth 100+ employees.

2) Does either company respond to unemployment claims?

3) Does either company respond and complete audit (401k, w/c, financial audits, GL, etc)?

4) I see self serve onboarding and employer entry of new employees, but dies either company providing data entry of on boarding new employees?

5) What is the standard format of reports in each system? Does the employer get a choice between Pdf and excel?

1). You mentioned that the software calculates the amounts for deductions (and I imagine withholdings as well), I did not hear you mention who actually sends out the funds to 401k, health, garnishments, or other agencies/vendors/etc(?). If with both of Gusto and Patriot, the employer is responsible for sending funds (EFT orcheck), this could easily get overwhelming to a client with 100 employees.
