I don't like debunking specs, but if you're planning on buying this you should know, you are not getting even the minimum 50x magnification. I think another reviewer pegged this as at most 30x-ish (which still isn't bad or nothing specially for the price) but the 500x or 1000x or even the 1600x are just absurd. How it looks like these companies are spec-ing their product, is the use the sice of the monitor you'll use measure what they see on their screen and divide that by actual milimeters. What you must do is equalize the resolution into real world measurements, not impossible but since monitors of different sizes exist a 21inch monitor would result in a smaller zoom than a 27 or 32in monitor. 640x480p (the actual resolution of the sensor) is already bad at anything past the size of a 4-7inch monitor/lcd screen (some microscopes that sell with the screen use the circuit/sensor from this item).

The good:
All that aside, these little devices do magnify SOME it's just not what the box says in the slightest. If you put these on a sturdy stand (I use mines with a rack and pinion clamp with metal base) they become more useable than w/o. The little holder @0:46 is trash obviously. I get workable distance up to about 6 inches and can use this to inspect or solder boards 30fps is limiting but again for the price, no complaints.

I own the Jiusion HD version of this(I'll admit since I don't have this version on the video I can't compare it really), but I wouldn't be surprised if it's software added megapixels compared to this. My opinion is they can be used for more than just toys, but as other reviewers state DON'T EXPECT AN ELECTRON MICROSCOPE.

Look at a 250x actual microscope and compare it to this cam's 500x, you'll see that at even 250x you can see a lot more and a lot clearer. If you do want or need an actual digital microscope for actual science or pcb repair, ok ones start about $130ish on up with the real nice ones being $600 mountless(a decent mount will be another $200ish)

I suspect they have the same sensor. I know it's a different brand but these seem to all be made by the same manufacturer and sold for resale in bulk from overseas.

Here's another (I still think it's the same) but with screen
