How to make DIGITAL Sounds More ANALOG in Bitwig Studio

There are several ways to make digital sounds a tad warmer and emulate some kind of "analog-ness". In this video, How to make DIGITAL Sounds More ANALOG in Bitwig Studio, we explore some modulators in Bitwig. These devices and tools give us interesting ways to breath analog life into our digital sounds.

I come from an era of cassette, LP and analog audio equipment. The first demos I ever did with my band Embracing was recorded on a Fostex reel to reel tape machine! The sound you get from a tape machine and analog mixer is oozing with character. Sometimes unwanted, but sometimes also loved. ;)

Why not try to breath a little life into todays digital sounds!? Hope you enjoy this little sound exploration.

Hi Mattias, many thanks for the wonderful Bitwig content. Quick question, how does one add presets other than the standard presets that come with the Polygrid etc? Struggling to do this. :(

Hi, if you change the trigger mode in random module from Sync to free you dont need to use another random module to make it more chaotic

Thanks for sharing some thoughts on this analog topic, Mattias, very nice! Indeed, it's sometimes very important to have enough "depth" and subtle move in the sound, especially covered with spacial effects, like you've shown. And yes, analog warmth is suitable and organic probably almost everywhere) Analog devices are awesome, too, until the make you solder a little bit, as we used to discuss =)

I think, most of all I love this slow pitch and phase drift and that low frequency subtle sound of soft EM interference, of lamps of what it is, sound so magical! Nice, that we can emulate it to some extent, but yes, having real analog gear and playing it is totally wonderful.

By the way, my friend bought Behringer Neutron today, deeply inspired of it after we touched it on our local NAMM, here in Moscow last weekend. Just have discussed it today and agreed, that yes, this is totally the instrument, full feeling of having something natural, almost acoustic! Behringer quality seems quite decent also, and all that replicas… :) I seriously thought about their drum and bass machines reworks, maybe one day)

Thank you very much again for these little useful suggestions! I wish you a nice creative days this week! Our weather is totally spoiled just before the weekend, autumn summer gone, so now it's the real autumn, as it should be =) But hopefully that's a good sign of some good weather changes in your place, I noticed, sometimes it's a little bit on the other side =) So yes, hope it's going to be good, too!

NICE! I've been looking for something like a random CV generator with seed support (CV in Reasonland not hardware), so I can have things that sound random but can be reproduced reliably. This is a great way of doing it as the audio rate modulation gives the impression of random jitter but is reliably reproduced each play through. I'm trying to transition over to Bitwig from Reason and the advantages keep coming ;) Really enjoying all your Bitwig videos, they've cleared up a lot of confusion and helped me feel at home in Bitwig already!

would low pass filtered white noise make a simpler modulator to achieve this effect?

How to randomize the randomisationspeed of a randomgenerator with another randomgenerator that is also randomized the randomisationspeed by another randomgenerator?

Is there any way to achieve this in FL Studio or Studio One?

I’m not sure if I am right but Bitwig seems to sound more digital than other DAWs. Is Bitwig the fastest DAW to work with outside of iPads?
