How to add an Icon to an .exe file

Simple video to add an icon to an exe file, sorry about the crappy quality, couldn't find a better desktop recorder :/

I may already have commented on this. But thank you for the video.

I was trying to change my .exe icon and was confused as to why I couldn't, since I remember being able to do it.

I find this vid, reminding me of a program I had on my previous PC. No wonder I couldn't do it, I never brought the program over.

More than likely, this is the same video I would have looked up years ago for my old pc.

i had to do "action\add an image or other binary resource" instead of "add a resource". and it worked! thanks a lot

Thanks Aaron. Your explanation was the only one I could find that worked for my case, where the original .exe file had no associated icon and was displayed with the Windows 7 default icon. Unfortunately, when the desired icon file was added using resource hacker, the program would then not execute. I had to go back into the program source code (FORTRAN) and designate the desired icon file as a resource. Then when the modified source code was compiled and linked, the executable file's icon appeared automatically as desired. I imagine all executable files would not be rendered inoperable after using the resource hacker to add or change an icon. Unfortunately mine was.

when i right click there is no "open with resource hacker"(not like winrar works how it should on the right click)

i right clicked on the exe file but it did now give me the option to open with resource hacker. Please help me out on this.

When I try to open my file after doing this, I get a windows defender message saying a trojan virus called "wacatac" was detected.. why might this be happening?
