A group of young people, who have type 1 diabetes, want to help medical professionals understand the daily challenges they face.

The team from Glasgow hope to highlight the effort it takes to monitor and manage their condition, which is caused by a lack of insulin in the body and is kept under control by checking blood glucose, taking medication and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

I've had diabetes (type 1) for around 4 years now, as a young boy, it can be a bit different. My Schedule is this: Wake up, do whatever, check my bloods, then in around like 30 minutes, I have a breakfast of 39g (a waffle and coffee), and then the day goes on as normal, usually a few lows, or highs, but I always get through. Most meals I have are usually 39g, 34g, 20-110g and around 40 for snack time. I use an insulin pump, and we also have the same finger pricker!
I use glucojuice, glucotabs or some random sugary thing for my lows, For my HIGHS I take water, some corrections, and run around a bit.

A low usually makes me hungry, moody, and stressed.
A high usually makes me moody, stressed and thirsty. I also use a Sensor, it makes life MUCH easier!

I’m thankful my mental arithmetic skills are good. Diagnosed with LADA 2 years ago aged 47 and working in hospital pharmacy plus attending a T1 diabetes Ed course 6 mo after diagnosis has really given me the knowledge and skills to deal with this positively.

I've been Type 1 for 59 years. I'd highly recommend getting a CGM. It makes your life much easier, in terms of diabetes management. No more finger-pricks!

I'm a Type 1 diabetic, I do think people need to be more educated some people think diabetes is a lifestyle disease but Type 1 and Type 2 are different, Type 2 is a lifestyle disease and Type 1 is an autoimmune disease. Type 2 can be reversed if you eat well and is easier to manage in a tablet form unfortunately that's not the case for Type 1's you cannot reverse it its a life sentence, you have to nurse it, its a 24/7 disease it can be a hard, it makes life more challenging but you have no choice but to live with it. Hope there will be a cure one day 🙏

Do people still prick their fingers to take blood samples? Why dont everyone use a continuous glocose monitor? Do people still inject themselves with insulin? Why does not everyone use an insulin pump?

This is fantastic video. I would like to use it in a course I am writing about Diabetes. Getting the perspective of a person who lives with diabetes would be useful for my students, would you mind if I use it?

So I have type 1 and I just want a question answered for me as I’ve never gotten the information. I’ve had it for 5 months so I’m not as amazing as others. If you’ve taken your night time insulin and then want something to eat during the night, is it safe to do day/fast acting insulin after you’ve done your night one? Because last time I did that I threw up but the diabetic team didn’t really think much of it.
