Made these to add to my cookie tin presents for friends. They were a big hit! I followed the recipe to the 't' (used the scale and everything) and had no problems. Even had the kids help and they were able to help form the cookies without too much trouble. The cookie itself was SO tasty. Not too crunchy, not too soft, and full of flavor. These were my favs this year. Will definitely do again. Thank you!

I love shortbread cookies and they are always a hit in my family since we don't have those in stores in Poland. I'll add cocoa powder instead of red food coloring to the second half and make them chocolate-regular shortbreads with light chocolate orange flavour :) Thank you for the recipe!

I've never made these cookies with anything other than powdered icing. You might be able to use regular white sugar, but I've never tried it.

do you mine when you are saying the amount of butter could you use tsp or by sticks to make it easier ofther wise everything else you do i amazing great job

Dear Stephanie! I love all of your recipes!!! But I'm confusing with vanilla extract. I can'not find it there in Russia. Nowhere! So I use vanillin. Does it make a huge difference?

Tried this tonight. Very time consuming but they are so unique it's worth it. I made mine green and red instead. ** Because these will break when twisting if the dough is warm, I highly recommend rolling out all of the small balls first, put them in the refrigerator, and only take out a few at a time to twist into the candy cane shapes.** Also, I used Pam, and the bottoms had a tint of brown on them. I will try parchment paper next time to see if this eliminates that brown look. They did not burn, so I really think it's the Pam spray. Too bad YouTube doesn't let you post a picture.

Thank you so much for your reply! Strawberry emulco is strawberry paste; more concentrated than liquid colouring, but gives food the flavour of strawberry... :) Perhaps I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes. ;)

You don't have to flavor the cookies with almond extract. I'm sorry, but I don't know what Strawberry Emulco is, so I don't know how it would work.
