USWNT - Alex Morgan: 'Legendary' v. France as History Repeats Itself (2011 WWC Semis & 2016 SBC)
Показать описание
USWNT star striker and global “face” of women’s soccer, Alex Morgan scores relatively the same goal against France five years apart with the first coming in the 2011 Women’s World Cup (“WWC”) Semifinals on July 13th, 2011 in Moenchengladbach, Germany at Borussia Park, when still a newcomer on the scene lovingly nicknamed “Baby Horse” by her veteran teammates for being a youngster who ran with long, galloping strides, she scored the icer in the 82nd minute to put the US up 3-1 off a Megan Rapinoe assist which Morgan finished with a brilliant, deft chip of the French goalkeeper and with it all but guaranteed the team a spot in the Final versus Japan held a few days later in the city of Frankfurt. The goal came three minutes after Abby Wambach scored in the match winner in the 79th minute to make it 2-1 after France had dominated most of the second half. The second Morgan goal came in the 2016 SheBelieves Cup (“SBC”) on March 6th, 2016 during a match hosted in Nashville, Tennessee at Nissan Stadium, when Morgan scored the game’s only goal in stoppage time coming in the 92nd minute off an assist from newcomer and rising star, Mallory (“Mal”) Pugh, which Morgan finished with a trademark left-footed perfectly placed strike to the far post to give the US a 1-0 lead (and the eventual win) even though France had dominated most of the match just as they had five years earlier in Germany, blatantly outplaying the US at times, especially during the first half. Both goals saw Morgan outrun French defender(s) hopelessly chasing her. Set to Welshly Arms’ “Legendary” this music video (“mvid”) highlights tribute montage compares Morgan’s high-quality finishing against one of the best teams in the world, now ranked as a top-5 FIFA opponent, showing her sustained excellence versus France throughout the years. Will we see a three-peat at the 2017 SheBelieves Cup when the USWNT face France on March 7th, 2017 at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C.? Here’s hoping we do!
