One misconception I wanted to mention for folks was not to worry about dead bees in the snow in front of the hive. Actually this is probably a good sign ! This means the bees are still doing what they are supposed to do and cleaning out the hive.

If the colony had actually died, the bees most likely will be clustered up on the comb somewhere not outside the hive.

IF YOU'RE GOING TO USE ELECTRIC HEAT GO TO THE NURSERY AND GET A 1020 TRAY HEATING PAD IT GOES TO 70⁰f OR 20⁰ WARMER THAN THE SURROUNDING AIR

So when splitting a hive, did you mean 3 miles as the crow flies? 😊

I was concerned that putting a winter B kind on would draw the bees off a full deep&super that they would not go back to the food stores when sugar board was empty. Or pull them off brood. Thanks

It was 65 degrees here in N. California so I figured it was a good time to check out the hives. One of the hives I checked, which is a 2 deep, the top box was packed frame to frame of sugar water honey. Should I take some frames out and put in some empty c
omb or foundation or leave it? Thank You.

The title of this one caught my attention. I had a hive that starved out with 50lbs of honey in the bottom box. No they don't move down.
