Akureyri, Iceland Day Trip: Including Godafoss, Skútustaðagígar, Namaskard & Dimmuborgir

Akureyri and the nearby sights were my favorite places in Iceland. I took a motorcoach excursion through Oceania cruises, which took us through the mountains and glacial valley. We had stops at Godafoss, Skutstadagigar Craters, Namaskard and Dimmunborgir. All four were amazingly beautiful sights and made my entire cruise worth it. Fortunately we had good weather that day. Akureyri is at the end of the Eyjafjiordur, so sits in a gorgeous setting. This day trip was well worth the extra expense and included a delicious lunch. I would certainly return to Akureyri again.

For senior travelers, this particular excursion was easy in that the bus took us within easy walking distance of each sight. The Skutstadagigar Craters and Dimmunborgir required a bit more elevation and some stairs, although you could choose to stay on flatter surface.

For solo travelers, all of Iceland is safe and friendly. If you don't arrive by cruise, I would suggest looking into joining a bus excursion that visits all four of these sites. Well worth it.
