Yaesu speaker comparison

Not exactly a lab test however this may help someone who may be in the market for an external speaker. Sound bites of 5 different Yaesu speakers. The SP-10, SP-20, SP-2000, SP-101 and SP-9000. There are no real winners, some have wider frequency response for a richer sound experience, others are more narrow for easier communication readability.

You know, I love creative videos like this.

Somebody who takes a group of speakers to compare them together because they have access to all of them. What a great asset this video is! Well done my friend!

SP-2000 all the way. I have owned mine for 12 years and I will never part with it. I assume the 9000 is very similar but seems overkill for my needs. The frequency adjustments with the 2000 make things very comfortable as a final touch for various signal types. If I IF Shift a signal due to QRM I can roll the original tone back in with the Contour and SP-2000 combo with ease. Just my take on it and thanks for the comparison.

crazy how each one of the speakers produces an accent. I assume that because they are sold in England.
Thanks for the comparison. I will be getting the 101 or 2k. The 2k sounded the best but it is a shiny farthing.

Great video. It showed me that there is a difference in height. I was looking for a matching speaker for my 3000, even though the others sounded better, this steered me to the SP-20 for asthetic purposes. 73 from North America

Wow, I was looking at whether to get an SP-2000 or an SP-101 for my FTDX10; definitely going with the SP-2000, when you switched to the SP-101 after SP-2000 it almost sounded like you had turned the SP-10 back on!

I thought the sp 2000 came across the best on your recording anyway. The sp20 does alright for the cost of it too.

after seen twice your video, definetely i would not pick the 101... the sp 2000 has the crispy and loud that makes a round sound. and the sp 20, simple speaker with great great audio

Thanks for the video. I have an sp20 ordered since the supply is running out, to go with my ftdx3000d. I got an sp10 to match my ft991a, new it would sound terrible before I got it and replace the driver with a Tymphany Peerless driver from PartsExpress like others do and it really made an improvement.

SP-2000 was LEAGUES above the others, at least listening through the YouTube video audio.

I have the SP-767 very similar to the middle SP-2000, real improvement over the top mounted speaker on the radio

The SP-20 was not bad, I liked the SP-2000 I think the best

I installed the PHONEMA PHITS audio foam in my Kenwood SP-890 external speaker and it improved the sound quite noticeably. It looks like they have kits available for several of the speakers in this video. 73 de WB4DW

Great video! Thanks for doing this. Helped me greatly! I’ll use it on an upcoming show to help people in Ham Radio. This was really well done.

73’s to you!

Unfortunately when you played the SP-101, almost the entire play was the person on the telephone, which sounded bad compared to the woman's voice at the radio station. So based on this I thought the SP-2000 sounded better than the 101.

Have a look inside the box, you will be shocked at what you pay for! all of the units that you have there including the SP-9000 have basic speakers that you used to find in the old CB radios, the SP-2000 abd the SP-9000 does have filters, the SP-101 is a total rip-off, you are paying for a empty box with a CB speaker unit inside of it, if you need good sound out of any of these you really need to upgrade the speaker units fitted with something like the Visaton FRW10N Speaker Units, a much better performance.

Hi, good interesting video, I brought the Yeasu sp 9000 for the Icom ic-7300, well made solid build speaker, and well made control's 👌, but unfortunately that big empty metal box, enficises and exaggerates the lower frequencies, making it a little bass heavy, the low cut filter will certainly help, I've just ordered a PHITS kit FROM PHONEMA in Germany, its a sound damping kit, all pre cut and easy to fit, to me a purposely designed sound damping kit can only improve a great sounding speaker, the sp 9000 goes very loud and the filters are well worth I receive the kit I will make a short video, , , , thanks and 73s from Rotterdam.

I like your test, for me I need the SP-9000. Because of the filters, headphone jacks, and the 2 individual speakers for my Wouxun KG1000g. I have terrible hearing so I need to be able to adjust the treble and bass depending on a persons voice. I just wish it had bluetooth, so I could use bluetooth headphones.

I’m an ICOM MAN but the SP-2000 sounds the Best with ease.It was not a contest for me and the 101 sounded poor to my ears.👍🎙
