I did what any other big, fat, dumb American consumer would do--went to Walmart and bought the cheapest unit they sell. You get exactly what you pay for. At this point it's been running for an hour or two and most definitely it has gotten cooler in there. Fair enough, this is a temporary solution.

Full blast A/C for me, more efficient! Turn on or off. I'm a believer now thanks for showing us.

I likely have the same AC, manufactured at the plant next door, badged as a GE. Sounds identical to this one. Even has that same wobbly blue faen, too. Use it to get my bedroom cooler at night, since my grandfather seems to get more cold natured as the years go by. Mine does a fine job, eventually ... I recall paying a buck 38 for it 3-4 years ago.
Also, came for the "should have gotten vintage, " and was not disappointed! This Midea you bought, is the best solution, spur of the cigrits, for a real world emergency situation.

At 0:18 that was very funny lol. Anyways at lease it’s not the computer control shit that likes to fail. Tbh it would have been better if you had a vintage air conditioner unit.

I was bored 1 day so I bought one of these. It was similar to the one you had. And might have even been the exact same. And within 5 minutes, I'm not kidding 5 whole minutes. It was already broken. So I returned it. And kept my trusty carrier international series Really shows you how good or not? So good quality is today.

Not bad, as long as it's maintained then it should be good. Unlike some who don't clean the filter.

Ha, Midea...a few years back, a Midea showroom appeared near my office. And I always thought it was strange, because this was a fancy part of town (their rent would have been insane) and they opened this expensive showroom to hawk off cheap Chinese appliances. I was unconvinced, so I never went inside. This was before COVID, no idea if it's still there today.

Much better than nothing for sure! Mechanical controls, 50 something degree range for output air, you're all set.

So note to self don't use low speed.

O pardon, you have cold air now on the second floor.

Like you mentioned, I believe the problem is low refrigerant. Hopefully the Evaporator Coil in the air handler isn't leaking and it's just the service ports on the outdoor unit.

I'm actually surprised it's MECHANICAL!!

Did it pull the temperature down to a tolerable level? The faucet water here is colder than the air coming outta that thing.

Wondering how these units performed for you overnight? I saw a video yesterday where Steve Lav mentioned he's charging $150/lb for R22 this year. Still if you only have a slow leak its cheaper than replacing the whole unit. If you have it recharged and get a couple years before it needs it again thats not bad. If it doesnt make it through the season before needing more then its time is up.

Do you think you can film the unit turning on when it's fixed, and film the hvac guy repairing it

Just a tad off topic even though that's a really big No, No when not video related...but i would like to see people proof read their comments and correct their mistakes and actually proof read their comments all together. The comments are produced on a device and alot of these devices even auto-correct. But I guess when it comes down to it some people dont have an english education.

I assume you know there there is a 2-5 minute time delay to protect the compressor from short cycling. Turn it on to cool and wait 5 minutes. Then the compressor will start.
