What a hot mess of a stage. Am I the only one amazed that Fiorelli was able to stay up after getting knocked into the barriers in slippery conditions; he used them like a water slide and kept on motoring rubber side down. And Cavendish getting 5th crossing the line on his belly...

3:36 good thing it wasn't those old barriers that crash would have been horrible

What was “good” about this crash was how the barrier performed. Cav slammed Fiorelli into the barrier and he slid along and regained control and stayed upright. In years past his bars or wheels would have hooked on something and he would have endoed

Cavendish actually (based on overhead) did quite an athletic, acrobatic move to stay relatively unscathed at those speeds. Wow. Way back in the day (80s) I was the lead out man for our Cat 1 sprinter in SoCal and so I love the overhead shots of leadups to pro sprinting. Basically at 65 years of age I can hardly believe I used to do that. So many stories! So many crashes… 😅

Cavendish actually got fourth place. Dainesi was judged to have deviated from he's line and got pushed back in the rankings.

Cav must have one of the best wipeout compilations in pro cycling

Rain. Stray dog. Uneasy peloton. Crashes.

Anyone criticising Cav should watch the footage again. Dan Lloyd got it wrong too, Dainese penalty was bang on!

Damn, ... Cavendish clearly got his front wheel clipped by the guy in front.

@4:03, right when Cavendish hits Fierelli (the guy in green), some small white objects goes shooting forward, up, and across the road. What the heck was that? I'm thinking it was part of Cav's shoe that broke off when his foot collided with the front wheel of the the other rider.

The little dog goes back and tells his friends " I'm on the telly !"

Question: are days like today, where the peloton is moving slower and taking longer on the course harder for the peloton or could be more like a rest day?

Cav was already drifting right before Dainese went across his front wheel. In my view they either both get penalised or neither of them. Cav even had a look over his shoulder like some 20yr old rookie.

Dog on the course?!? Only in Italy. Or pretty much anywhere! Such bad luck. The pup looked fine as the rider avoided him pretty nicely. 🐕

That drift right by Cav in the final was very dangerous, and look at the outcome

3:14 Remco actually luckier than the guy on the ground behind him who got run into by another rider. That hurt from my desk chair.

Wow! An acrobatic figure made by Cavendish when he was falling down! It shows us he is a brilliant sprinter 👌
