I’m able to see that real resources exist and that my faith is placed in my ability to keep things under control

The acceptance that I am alone and will forever be alone until I die. Then I will no longer exist forever. No one and no thing comes with you when you die. Realizing this I understand my existence and choices are my responsibility and I must make the best choices to have a good life.

I wanna engage with this in a good natured way. By the sounds of it, your relationship with jesus isnt too different than the one i have with my friends and family, or even with myself. When hard times come for us, we can rely on each other for support. Those support networks make handling tragedy and hardship that much more bearable.

I live out of love for life and curiosity to see how things may go. I'm glad you've found stability and peace through protestant Christianity (guessing it's protestant because of the mention of a personal relationship with God).

But I'm not a hater. I recognize that belief in an omnipotent all powerful good God can be incredibly good for the soul.
I just like to look at the big picture (such as how, before separation of church and state, the clergy served the purpose of legitimizing the inequality between the wealthy and the poor).

But I digress. Here's a question for you (operating under the beliefs held by Christians):
Are you still in debt to God? Or did Christ pay your debts by sacrificing himself?
If he did pay your debts, why are people compelled to believe that they raise their chance of eternal life by becoming evangelical? Is it not denying the sacrifice that Jesus made to pay off your debt to believe that people still need to be saved in any way?

Because I'm not into magical thinking, and knowing that my choices define my reality.

Not everyone needs an imaginary friend in order to cope with life. Thats how.

The issue with god is that he is most definitely indirectly responsible for massive amounts of preventable suffering and has probably cause a lot of direct suffering too. Countless atrocities have been committed in his name and justified solely with belief in him. Right now a lot of the most cruel and hateful people are Christians and they uses there faith to justify their cruelty.

People have different ways of coping, your religion is yours.
Others have faith, just not faith in God or Jesus. They have faith in themselves or in the universe in general. Some believe in luck, chance and signs.
We are all ok, brother.

The reason is simple. It's called the morality of anti-theism
