Why Isn't NATO Imposing a No-Fly Zone over Ukraine?

There have been a lot of calls for NATO to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine. However, NATO leadership has shown no interest in this. Why? This video explains three major issues: the scope of such an operation, the unclear benefits, and the risk of nuclear escalation.

Excellent points here. I completely agree with your analysis. At this point I feel that if we commit to the No Fly Zone, we would be all-in. And it would provide the leverage that Putin needs to escalate things further.

Good explanation of key issues. I do wish that you wouldn't use U.S states for geographic size comparisons though. I doubt most non-U.S viewers would have any idea how large Conneticut is or to a lesser degree the size of Texas.

Great video. My question concerns the logic of your point at 4:20. Why is it the case that if you’re a nuclear armed state you want to escalate up to the point where the other state initiates the war? Or in other words why is initiation on behalf of the other nuclear state a strategic advantage?

Those in favor of implementing a no-fly zone further proves just how influential warmongers are. They have united most of the media, both left and right, to support certain narratives. In our day, uniting left and right is some great feat to accomplish.

Because it would literally mean declaring war on Russia

Why is this even a question? Like David Lightman said to Joshua in War Games "Let's play global thermonuclear war." That is what NATO would be telling Putin. Like Jennifer, David's cute love interest, said to the great Professor Falkin, "I'm not ready to die yet". Like Falkin said to them both: "A millisecond of brilliant light, and we're vaporized." The answer, and the reasons, to the question, why a no fly zone cannot be implemented, is so simple.

Again… president Zelensky is not in the position to determine the reasonableness of his request.

@1:23 "relatively easy to implement" image is of abandoned vehicles on Highway 80 after a US aerial attack on the retreating Iraqis the year before the no-fly zone in the south. A No Fly Zone would not bomb ground vehicles so the image is a bit of a distortion re no fly zones in general. Disabling air force command and control, materiel, and runways.

Was as no fly zone seriously under consideration? Currently the challenge seems to be how far can NATO go in arming Ukraine without inviting attack. If weapons travel through a NATO country and Russia identifies such a shipment, it will be much like the US and Germany in the World Wars before America's entry. Would Russia launch an attack on a NATO country to prevent delivery? Would NATO retaliate and how? If supplied with missiles that can reach Belarus would Ukraine seek to knock out launchers there? Would that signal a new phase? Does NATO increase presence in the Estonia, Latvia, and/or Lithuania now as a defensive move or wait and see.

There is nothing that may not be a trigger for Putin to escalate, and if all else fails there is the tried and true method of staging an inciting incident.

What most people dont and fail to understand is how quick conventional warfare can escalate into nuclear warfare.

No fly zones are setup after a war starts out between allies. This is a war that is 4 weeks old. Air dominance, close air support, missile defense and etc...are just implements of war used at the beginning of a war.

The problem with the no fly zone is that no matter what America do it all loops back around to ww3 something no one wants

A No fly zone is not practical but for our own safety NATO should enforce a safety buffer zone! Put air defence systems on NATO's eastern borders with Ukraine and tell Russia for our own safety and of our Domestic airspace, no attacks or military aircraft will be permitted within 100 or 200km over Ukrainian territory from NATO border's. Any un-authorized intrusion within the Nato buffer zone will be shot down by air defence systems. Since Ukraine is warzone full of fascists we need to ensure that another Malaysia MH17type incident cannot happen again. This should be done so Russia is clear that we will not permit any "accidents"" that will draw us into the conflict.

Short answer: it means WW3. That said, maybe we should just get it over with.
