‘Do we really need a public broadcaster?’: ABC bias criticised

Sky News host Danica De Giorgio says claims of ABC bias were “catapulted back into the headlines” after a controversial Four Corners documentary.

The ABC has copped criticism for its documentary ‘Ukraine’s War: The Other Side’, which offered a “human perspective on life on the Russian frontline”.

Ukrainian Ambassador Vasyl Myroshnychenko described it as “pro-Putin and pro-violence propaganda” as he labelled the program the “journalistic equivalent of a bowl of vomit” in a scathing statement.

Ms De Giorgio said the ABC was once a “respected and trusted voice”.

“But these allegations of bias have again prompted the question, do we really need a public broadcaster?”

Just privatise it. It stopped being neutral years ago. Now it has an agends like everybody else.

I haven't watched the ABC for twenty years, it's toxic. Since 2019 i haven't watched msm either, lots of independent people with information

Haven't watched ABC for nearly 12 months. I dont want to be lectured by people who seem to think they know it all. Unfortunately one of the best shows on TV has suffered along with me. Landline.
I have even removed all ABC channels from my smart tv.

When the LNP inevitably return to federal power, it will be defunded.
It's simply not doing its job.

We do need the ABC for pre-school education, rural news and to project Australian influence to our region. We don't need their biased news and pseudo-science.

We just want traditional Australian broadcasting that focuses on grandpa-centric news

Do we really need a public broadcaster? A) I would argue we don't need ANY broadcasters as free to air is a dying format B) to the extent that Australians want a public broadcaster, the ABC and SBS should be removed from tax payer funding and the public can just donate money and leave the ABC in their will money. If they don't want to pay for it then it will stop existing. Tax payers should not be paying for it. Public broadcasting has never been a responsibility of the Federal government yet it seems to not only be a responsibility but the amount of money going there is only increasing, despite what they say about wanting to cut the ABC they never do.

Privatisation, will lead to a more harmonious country. Less divided, and less taxes. Why not .05%.

If the United States is the argument against a public broadcaster, then...yes, we do need the ABC.

If the public broadcaster is deemed to be compromised, then correct that situation instead of winging and whining about it.

Yes, we desperately need a public broadcaster. The alternative is the ap palling murdoch media, which is not real media but far right wing propaganda. It is owned by a far right billionaire. We need a public broadcaster that is about truth not about billionaires making money.
