a grown man whining like this is really uncomfortable.

I just use a PowerPoint with black background and white font…. 1000% customisable. No camera hub software, no third party app. I change the slides manually but you can also set timing if you want…

Teleprompters are a game changer. We got one at my workplace a few years ago and our production quality saw an immediate improvement.

You may need another screen for the glide gear but you need a computer connection for the Elgato. If you’re going to be filming in the same location constantly then Elgato is the way to go . If you’re going to be filming in different locations and offices, glide gear is superior .

I started with the DesView and upgraded to the Elgato Prompter. The fact that the Elgato Prompter fits lightly onto my lens with rings is super awesome. The DesView did the same thing, but the Desview text is too small and I could never get the speed "just right". My only issue with the Elgao Prompter is the clunky software, but it has been improving. The one big annoyance I have is that when connected and you Alt-Tab, you have to look at the prompter to see which app you'll be alt-tabbing into.

I have a glide gear in my office studio and love it. Have had an Elgato Prompter for almost a year. Didn't know about proper placement of a DSLR either because that's also missing from the manual. Didn't realize it until it was flashed in this video. So thanks for that! Also, I agree with everything you said.

Great review! I really enjoyed watching it, and I appreciate the time and effort you put into sharing your thoughts. Your insights helped me decide whether to take the plunge on the Elgato Teleprompter, and I finally went for it! I’m looking forward to trying it out. Thanks again for the helpful review!

Thanks for the video and the really clear detailing of the good and bad of both teleprompters. I'm looking at getting one, and I'm seeing that Neewer also has a fairly wide selection of teleprompters, that come with a remote and their own app, too.
I'm wondering if you (or anyone else you know, or anyone else here in the Comments section) has firsthand experience with any of the Neewer teleprompters?

I've used the Elgato for several years now, and it's been fine and very easy to use. and the FACE CAM Pro...EXCELLENT.

First of all thank you for this review. I’ve been trying to decide if I want to make the switch from my GlideGear to the Elgato. For now I’m sticking with my GlideGear and PromptSmart Pro software. If, and when, Elgato improves their software to equal or improve what I’m already using I’ll most likely switch.

As you mentioned the biggest issue I have with the GlideGear is my camera is literally trapped on it. It’s a total pain to remove it and every time I do the biggest issue I have is getting it back in the same spot. Just the slightest bit off and I the fabric that surrounds the lens gets in the way or the camera isn’t aimed exactly the way it was.

The other issue is that PromptSmart continues to make me log back into their website to use their software. I’ll sit down ready to record only to find the script I saved isn’t on the app. It took a while for me to realize that I had to log into their website again. Logging into their app is also necessary to use the paid Pro features like voice activated scrolling. At least it will allow me to copy my scripts on my iPad and paste them directly into their app. Once I discovered this would work it’s saved me a lot of time.

I’ve heard rumors that Elgato has heard our pleas and is working on improvements to their software. This includes a voice activated scrolling feature that’s supposedly in beta. It will be interesting to see if this actually happens.

Thank you very much for sharing the real pain and the solution to it. I feel you when the software and hardware are not very in sync. Especially a minor tweaking to the software will be fantastic. Well, lets the market heat up with more competition. Hopefully Insta360 or DJI.

I added an Arca quick release on top of the Glide Gear, that the camera goes into. Easy mod and solved that problem. Additionally, I'm using a Liliput HDMI monitor instead of a tablet, but when you're taking the Glide Gear on location, a tablet is handy, while the Elgato Prompter isn't something you want to bring anywhere.

Saw Jon Anderson's YES in concert last night, and he used a prompter monitor. He's 79 y.o. and I'm glad he used it instead of having lyric mistakes in his own songs.

Wonder what kind he was using...

Thanks for the product review, man 🤙🏼

I just ordered the Neweer X14 III (yes the version 3). Reasons? Main reason: I checked out the app and it has certain quality of life features not founf elsewhere at least for the price e.g. able to set the WIDTH of the text, not just from the center but you're literally able to position the entire scrolling box. Thats on top of adjusting font size. 2nd, you're able to easily get the text into your display app. Seems there are several ways including using the cloud. 3rd, it allows for height adjustment for the camera which is important. 4th, seems to be an all metal design for the parts that need it. Not weak plastics to fail. 5th, it lets me use any sized tablet from a phone to a Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra. 6th, it comes with a remote that uses AAA batteries, not button batteries. Its bluetooth but should be fine given the short distance to camera. 7th, the teleprompter doesn't rest on the lens or lens mount. Can't wait for it to arrive. yay oh and did I mention all for AUD$240 on amazon au?

Der Prompter ist großartig, und ich nutze ihn selbst! Ich habe viele tolle Feedbacks bekommen, weil ich den Menschen direkt in die Augen schauen kann. Das macht enorm viel aus und kann ich jedem empfehlen.

Have you ever tried mounting a phone immediately left of the lens, for the classic 'looking just past the lens' portrait framing?

I've been thinking of the Prompter purely out of connivence and cutting bulk, since I've been using a Glide Gear-esque prompter setup with a android tablet & free wireless screen mirroring app. It's surprisingly stable, as a mirrored or secondary monitor setup for video conferencing/meetings/etc - but to your point it's bulky and requires a lot of steps. When I needed to read copy, I just used a simple web interface (but I'm sure there are plenty of other means currently.) Having said all that, I'm still on the fence and am now considering a dedicated 10" portable monitor instead of my tablet; Liliput for example have HDMI mirroring built into their firmware. Just wish the options weren't originally built for the DSLR era, as so many of us are streaming with mirrorless. -whew- Great video! haha, hope this helps someone?

I have the elgato prompter. I like the simplicity. It does have some limitations. The screen resolution is a problem for MsTeams, as some of the buttons are not on screen. It also needs a power switch. I would like the option to turn it off. This is complicated by the fact that I cannot install software on my work laptop. I use it everyday Sony A7IV with 45mm F1.8 FF lens.
