Why you need a third place in your life

I was spoiled in the late '90s and early 2000s by an abundance of comic shops and local game stores acting as readily available non-alcoholic third places. My friend group and I were left largely adrift when those places went out of business (due to owners' personal crisis, not lack of sales volume). My wife and I now travel to conventions every month or two so we can briefly experience our third places. It's a costly and unreliable alternative, but the best available in a post-brick and mortar specialty retailer era of capitalism.

Its interesting because people go to the gym but don’t socialize so many third places are not operating as they should because of the culture. Its not just about going to a place separate from work or home but being open to and engaging in relationships regularly in said places.

We have 4 services a week and youth fellowship on top of that. Great time with God and friends.

One of the reasons many Americans don't have third places is because of how our zoning laws are set up in the US. Most people can't just walk to a pub or a bookstore, which would both be amazing 3rd places.

3rd places should also be quickly accessible, like walk 5 mins and it’s there, if not it would be too much of a hassle to go to it

I joined a women’s walking group in my area they do walks happy hours and other events at our last walk a girl there told me about another women’s group the women’s social club where I live has a chapter and they have serval chapters in other states I have not been to an event with that group yet but I’m going to two events with them in April I always found another women’s walking group in my area because the director of the wsc is the founder of that one oh and I found a women’s book club you be surprised what you can find in your area if you’re a woman seeking women friends
