Cherry Red were (and still are) a very important part of my life.
I'm 57 in a few weeks so I grew up with the label together with Rough Trade, Stiff etc....Pretty much mandatory for alternative listening as a UK based music fan.
Iain McNay deserves full kudos for his efforts over the years.

I became aware of Cherry Red on my first visit to England in April 1983. I picked up a copy of Pillows & Prayers - a compilation of Cherry Red artists. The cassette had a sticker "Pay No More Than 99p". My favourite artists on the collection were Marine Girls and Felt. Listening to that compilation brings so many memories. Thanks for this video, Mazzy

Tommy James came to western PA hunting for a band. And he came to Greensburg PA and hired the raconteurs History was made. My good friend Don was in a band called Battalion ( I was In briefly). They played the long version perfectly. My friend Donnie passed away at a young age. A true friend. Thanks for taking me back. The Electric Prunes were such a great band. Thanks again.

The Manchester comp looks fantastic. Love that era and sound. I remember when it was really hard to get Cherry Red CDs. Back in the '90s before amazon and ebay you'd have to find a bank that issued the correct kind of international money order and then coordinate all that and send it to England and hope in two months the CDs would get to you. I got a really good Cherry Red comp by the British band, the Wolfhounds from the late '80s. A really underrated indie cult band. Glad to see you trying to broaden the horizons of your viewers who seem perpertually stuck in 1972 US rock.

Hi Norman. I'm a regular Cherry Red buyer, great label. I'm a Manchester area guy too and I've seen a lot of the bands on your Northern compilation. It's a small world!

Nice video, Mazzy. (I love getting a box in the post labelled "Royal Mail.") I don't believe you mentioned all the great interviews available on the Cherryred TV link on their homepage. Lots of those off-the-main-road British folks that I like, including Ant Phillips, Toyah, and Steve Hackett plus producers like John Leckie (XTC, BeBop Deluxe, Los Lobos).

Great video - keep highlighting these great CD box sets - as a vinyl AND CD buyer it’s a shame the lack of love some of these great sets get

Holy just updated my comment from your Beau Brummels video (from 3 years ago) early this morning....before watching this post. Had ordered the Beau Brummels box set and it arrived yesterday. I then was watching this and there you were with it in hand. I had no idea it was on Grapefruit. What a strange coincidence. Its a great set and very complete. I am now thinking of grabbing few of these others. Good stuff!

Cherry Red performs an amazing service for humanity. Sounds heavy but they protect and preserve art. Their Procol Harum boxed set on their Esoteric sub label is absolutely spectacular.

Great choice Mazzy 👋👋👋.... really enjoyed the show and although I'm in the UK I didn't know Cherry Red Records ... my credit card is going to get a real pasting 😂 .... many thanks for for highlighting ✌

Cherry Red and Esoteric have a ton of great stuff, They did a box set for every Be Bop Deluxe album (I did a video on those ) and they do little boxes for Ant Phillips (Genesis), Barclay James Harvest and lots of prog bands that need some box sets and 5.1 mixes. Pleanty of great comps like you've shown, too. Good video.

Crimson And Clover extended hmm I can hear where the Hollies Lullabye To Times vocal effects come from all right. Loved the whole video on Cherry Red. Regards Chris (Curiosity at SHtv), Stoke On Trent, Staffordshire, The West Midlands of England.

Great video Mazzy, "Think I'm Going Weird" is top notch, and as a Manc how could I not love "Manchester North Of England". Takes me back to venues like The Boardwalk, and seeing characters like Bez, (pre-Happy Mondays), John Cooper Clarke, and MES just wandering around town.

Hey, dear Mazzey, now I know what I'll be looking for in the second hand stores I'll be visiting during the summer: albums by Tommy James and the Shondells and The Beau Brummels. Thanks.

Hi Mazzy, interesting that you highlight Kate Moss. She also will be forever linked with Pete Doherty. I’m not sure I’ve heard you talk about the Liberteens or Babyshambles? Love the Cherry Red label, especially their rare 60’s compilations.

Thanks for the recommendations, just ordered the Tommy James and Electric Prunes sets. Here's a rec not on Cherry Red: Saigon Rock & Soul: Vietnamese Classic Tracks 1968-1974. I bought it imagining it would be a distinct sound, and for once I was right: late 60's French/Asian/American influences blended to make a unique sound. It's on Sublime Frequencies label, which is based in Mazzy's home town of Seattle WA.
