I have to say, this song shows the relations between germans and frenchmen during the pre WW2 era perfectly. As a history student with a vivid interest in music, if i ever had to teach someone what the feelings in France were after the Franco-Prussian war i would have them listen to this. Absolutely fantastic song from a writing perspective and the singing is stunning.
