Give Me an Answer - Why Follow A Book That is 2000 Years Old?

Program 1821 ................... - Miracles - Historicity of Jesus - Following Jesus

The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

It is so strange looking back 10 years to see what a college campus looked like. The attitude and focus of these students is so different from students today.

This conversation first guy is actually my favorite one I’ve seen. Not only is he honest, but you can tell he is listening and trying to find the truth. This is an awesome way of finding the answers to life!

Why follow a 2000 year old book? Suppose it were written this morning, by a team of the wisest people on earth, and contained no teaching dependent on a particular time, culture or technology for its truth. It spoke for itself as superlative wisdom and revealed divine truth. Would you follow it? How about tomorrow? Next week? Next year? How many years would it take before timeless truth and wisdom were no longer timely? Timeless truth is, by definition, timeless.

Miracle: I was about to go off a cliff on the highway cause my brakes completely went out. My car miraculously stopped right before my inevitable demise. Praise God for modern miracles.

It's beautiful to look back at how ideas & thoughts were exchanged on college campuses. This took place in 2010. Sad that our youth today won't get to ever see this happen again peacefully.

The first kid is honest and genuine. You notice it when he replies that he is afraid that he might be a cynic. I pray that he reads the gospels or maybe has read it and believed, then I pray for spiritual growth. God Bless us all.

Whenever someone says "Come on, we live in the 21st century..." I always think of someone living earlier saying "Come on, we live in the 9th century."

I really enjoyed the genuine demeanor, intellectual honesty and consistency of the first guy. The goal of apologetics is not to convert you on the spot using fancy words, it's to get you to give a genuine look by appealing to your mind, God does the rest. All you have to do is give it a genuine look, God Himself will show you. But He actively hides the truth from those who are not genuine, which is why they live all their lives questioning but never getting answers and end up being frustrated hyper skeptics. 'The gospel is foolishness to those who are perishing.'

The second guy however, seemed to be in atheist kindergatten. Where the narrativeis everyone who is religious is just an idiot who can't think for themselves. Where they have never really met an apologist .

The last guy, was a treat for the mind. We had very similar objections before i came to Christ.

The bible is older than 2000 years old. They finished writing the old testament 2000 years ago. But Job could be up to 5000 years old.

And even then what is written could be older in oratory form.

Bout to watch this, but i hope that point is introdiced.

A common excuse/apologetic tactic is saying that the OT only condones "Indentured Servitude." This is VERY wrong!!!

The definition of Indentured Servitude is:

"Indentured servants were not paid wages but they were generally housed, clothed, and fed. The rights to the individual's labor could be bought and sold, but the servants themselves were not considered property and were free upon the end of their indenture (usually a period of five to seven years)."

*note: Indentured Servitude does not involve a person being considered as "peoperty"...

Now, contrast THAT definition with the following verses:

Exodus 21:20–21 says, “Anyone who beats their male or female slave with a rod must be punished if the slave dies as a direct result, but they are not to be punished if the slave recovers after a day or two, since the slave is their PROPERTY.”

Eek! Does that HONESTY sound like warm and fuzzy, harmless "Indentured Servitude" to you? God, I hope not. But, again, it's okay and expected for an ancient book to have some barbaric practices compared to our modern standards. So, I just think it would be nice if Christians educated themselves on the atrocities, as well as the niceties, and simply owned it and admitted it was man's thinking of the past and was wrong 🤔

Some additional verses:

Exodus 21:2-6  When you buy a Hebrew slave, he shall serve six years, and in the seventh he shall go out free, for nothing. If he comes in single, he shall go out single; if he comes in married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master's, and he shall go out alone. But if the slave plainly says, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out free, ’ then his master shall bring him to God, and he shall bring him to the door or the doorpost. And his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall be his slave forever. (Yikes! This is HORRIBLE).

And...

Deuteronomy 20:14 But the women and the little ones, the livestock, and everything else in the city, all its spoil, you shall take as plunder for yourselves. And you shall enjoy the spoil of your enemies, which the Lord your God has given you (this is hideous! Barbaric TO THE MAX).
