I feel this expansion would round everything out and finish the release pattern… as long as there is 1 insurgent and 1 militant and based on the actual video, frogs feel insurgent and bats feel militant for me. After these 2 factions, I feel the only thing Root could do is maybe a 3rd deck, some more landmark options and maybe hirelings. Or just leave it and say the game is complete.

12 factions, 3 map boards (double-sided), 3 full clockwork.

Honestly though, what I will be most excited to see is a big box to store everything. They hinted at it as one of the kickstarter goodies since they didn’t actually say “no”… They do have some work cut out for them in designing a big box. The bar has been set pretty high with the Wingspan, Everdell and Isle of Cats big box designs.

I’m super stoked that the new factions encourage player interaction, especially in a non-violent way. I feel like that’s exactly what Root needed, especially as a way to cap it off. Also interested to see how the Frogs will change the Eyrie meta. Suited cards in the decree are often frowned upon, but now they’ll have the option to add suited cards that correspond to a variable number of clearings, so the pay-off will have to be worth it

Those factions sound really investing. The Swamp map sounds interesting too. I wonder if you can flood clearings or make some clearings muddy to make players get stuck. I think that could be a fun mechanic to play in. Always down for more hirelings too.

The factions both sound really cool. I like that they both seem like they will radically change the play style. Man, i wish i got to play this game mkre frequently!

Bats are going to be where it's at for me, messing with the metagame of battles sounds like a great time. I also hope the swamp map is a larger player count board, it would be delightful to set up a game night (afternoon?) for a big, messy, glorious Root battle royal.

I am just excited for what this campaign means in general. I think it just shows that Leder understands their community and makes me appreciate their continued work to not only blaze new trails for all new games, but that they appreciate and treat their current communities well. It makes me desire to support products from them even if it's not quite my cup of tea (even though admittedly it's mostly my cup of root tea anyway)

Secretly I think there will be a new card deck, at least I hope so.. With the underworld expansion, the partisans and exile was not announced either.... And a new deck is really necessary too, since the 2 current decks no longer offer crafts for the last 4 factions including the marauder factions

And I'm also very curious which map will be included outside of the gorge map 😊

I really like the idea of the bats both mechanically and conceptually. The frogs I'm having a difficult time wrapping my head around what they'll be like to play and the "vibe" they'll bring, so I'll have to wait for some gameplay I think to fully appreciate them. Messing with clearing suits seems wild to me like...what are the poor Eyrie, Lizards and Keepers supposed to do? :P and new suited cards? It's all so gutsy, I love it

I know it's not a big flashy new faction, but it would make me so happy to see another round of balance changes for the existing factions. I'd love for Cats, Lizards, and Crows to be a bit stronger, and for factions like the Vagabond and the Otters to get a bit of a re-tune (quest deck, etc). Here's hoping! :D

I was so excited too but root and play it with my board game friends. But it didn’t really hit. I was so sad. This expansion seems so cool. I love the concept of the new mechanics. And sad that I will have no one to play it with.
