This was definitely an Oscar winning performance for Kate Winslet. We can all relate to her pain and story.

I always skip to the parts with Iris because her story is so relatable and I really feel her pain

"I understand feeling as small and as insignificant as humanly possible. And how it can actually ache in places you didn't know you had inside you. And it doesn't matter how many new haircuts you get, or gyms you join, or how many glasses of chardonnay you drink with your girlfriends... you still go to bed every night going over every detail and wonder what you did wrong or how you could have misunderstood. And how in the hell for that brief moment you could think that you were that happy. And sometimes you can even convince yourself that he'll see the light and show up at your door. And after all that, however long all that may be, you'll go somewhere new. And you'll meet people who make you feel worthwhile again. And little pieces of your soul will finally come back. And all that fuzzy stuff, those years of your life that you wasted, that will eventually begin to fade" wise words god damn it! I love this movie <3

''You'll go somewhere new and meet people that make you feel worth while again'' Iris was right, by the end when Miles suggests he come to England for New years, he tells her ''I've never been to England'' <3

I was waiting for Jack Black to blurt out "....Well, f*ck, you need this more than I do."

He listens and responds to her, makes her laugh. He even made a piano piece for her, so sweet Miles. Top of that, a one woman guy. He's not the hunky, strikingly attractive, sexy type, but his personality shines through. Sweet, loving, and kind. I want a husband like him. Could my Miles be out there?😂

Kate Winslet was absolutely amazing in this movie. I felt like she blew everyone else out of the water. I would watch this movie just for her (and I don't say that very often about an actor/actress). This is actually one of my favorite movies now...

One of the most heartbreaking things Iris says is this speech is 'those years of your life you wasted'. You can tell that realisation for her is particularly painful by the emotion in her voice. She realises she has invested so many years of her life in this man, who I genuinely believe she would have married if he had committed, so in love with him was she. He was the ONE to her, and whilst she's not ridiculously old, she is clearly in her 30s and was probably imagining herself as wanting to settle down soon and have kids. Instead, this man has wasted years of Iris's life by manipulating her with false love and affection, all for his own pleasure, whilst courting another woman and ensuring he had something more serious to fall back on, with little care as to how alone this would leave Iris. So little respect did he have for her, he believed she would willingly continue to be his 'bit on the side'.

Iris could have spent those years getting to know someone who saw her for how special she was, and created something real and deep. Instead, she lost herself and her own precious time over someone unworthy. She has to live with the self-loathing of having been so blinded by love, that she made allowances for his twisted behaviour, and the fact she will never get those years of her life back. That's true heartbreak.

Having said that, I'm glad she was able to see the light and made that snap decision to go to the US, otherwise she and Miles would never have crossed paths.

This is an awesome movie that every girl needs to see! It teaches women to not settle for 2nd choice (example Jasper) but wait for someone who loves you unconditionally,   that not only wants to expend time with you but also  puts you 1st place in his life. One of my favorite movies!!!! : )

I just found out that the man who my heart's been devoted to for 4 years is getting married. I never thought this movie would become my reality,

I feel bad for Iris, but at the end, I'm so inspired that she came to her senses. You can tell a LOT about a person by the way they treat their partner. If he valued his actual GF, Iris would have never been in this situation. The way I see it: she dodged a bullet but the other girl has to live with someone insecure, childish, untrustworthy, indecisive. He has to go through life always searching for his next conquest, never being satisfied with what he has. Everyone in this dynamic is suffering, but at least Iris is aware enough to make a change. You couldn't pay me to be in a marriage with someone like Jasper. Condolences to his future wife.

This is probably one of the greatest relationship movies around. She opens by perfectly describing unrequited love. The most painful kind of love.
I put The Holiday right up there with Last Night, 5 to 7, Cheri, Gigi, If a man answers, Married Life, Sex and Mrs. X, The VIPs, Dangerous Beauty, When Harry Met Sally, Somethin's Gotta Give.

Matthew Hussey always says 'never invest in someone on how much you like them but on how much they invest in you'.

I just ended the same situation with someone. Someone I worked with, someone who kept coming back into my life with those really painful half promises that went nowhere, someone who didn't seem to care that I was so angry whenever I was left crying because plans were once again cancelled or I was once again left confused by his wording. By his own admission, he wasn't someone that was there to help me solve my problems, he was "just a distractor". And I really have no excuse for wanting to believe that he would be a better person "the next time". This movie came on christmas night, I haven't watched it since I was a teenager, but this time this scene made me bawl. It really hits differently when you've been through it.

Being treated as an option and come back to you when you stop giving them the attention. And yet still never stated clearly on their intention. I can totally understand the feeling

My ex made me feel like this last year. Now I’m having to have therapy because I need help with getting my confidence back because he destroyed every bit of it that I had. Even though we weren’t together for years, he said all the right things to me and convinced me that we had a future together.

This scene is a good example why she's "The Kate Winslet!" One of the Best Actors of all time.
