Dragon Age: The Veilguard - PS5/Xbox Series X|S Tech Review - Impressive Visuals, Good Performance

Dragon Age: The Veilguard impressed us on PC - and so perhaps it's not surprising to find that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game are also attractive and solid, with decent performance - if not quite a 60fps lock. Xbox Series S is cut-back as expected - but still gets the job done. Oliver Mackenzie has the full DF console performance review.

Give a raise to whoever did the hair for this game. I remember HairFX being an Nvidia feature for Witcher 3 and it tanked your framerate by like 20%.

How did Steve from Gamers Nexus manage to be in the game?

480p on the Series S? We haven't seen those resolutions on Xbox since the original one lol.

2:38 I’d appreciate if you put up the resolution numbers onscreen. Helps my unga-bunga brain 🙏🏽 Thanks for a great vid Oliver

2:43 504p on the PS5? Holy fuck, we're really going back to the days of the fucking Gamecube aren't we?

Gonna give my character the longest hair possible and spend a bunch of time just running in circles to see the hair move lol

A severe lack of understanding about how FSR works for console ports in the comments..

There needs to be an entire DF episode explaining base resolution and upscaling. So many of us hear the base resolution numbers and don't understand what that means for the final image quality. I don't think native base resolution matters in the way we think, but I'm not technically knowledgeable enough to provide a justifiable explanation.

1080p at quality mode and 720p in performance mode is customary? That's *extremely* low internal resolutions and I can't imagine that looks even remotely sharp.

Knowing nothing about the series itself other than reading some comments online complaining that the art direction looks like Fortnite now, I'm watching this wondering whether we need to recheck the quality of our drinking water sources. This game looks amazing graphically!

If you're on the Series S, I'd recommend using the fidelity mode cause it always seems to do better overall (for some reason).

Say what you will about the game, but it looks like it has the best hair ever made in a game.

I'm gonna be spending a ridiculous amount of time just flipping my hair around like Fabio.

So, we can agree right. RT is still not worth it at this performance level.

I don't personally like the art style chosen to render the characters, but I can admit it looks good. If this is any indication of how Frostbite will perform in the next Battlefield game, that gets me excited.

no beautiful hair strands in either of series s' modes is CRIMINAL

The only criticisms of the game I've seen so far is "lol EA game" and "there's WOke chacters Discourse around games is just garbage nowadays, I swear DF is the only outlet that just gives a neutral view, facts only news about games. Everyone's just trying to cause drama and get clicks instead of informing people.

I don't know why people are celebrating this game not using UE5 when it's running typical UE5 console resolution settings. 1080p for fidelity mode and 720p for performance mode? That is ridiculous for what is on display in this game.

how is an upscaled 720p considered "impressive visuals"?

Lmao if there was no FSR in this gen, games would run in resolutions lower then on ps4, or u know devs would start to work on optimisations.
