Hurricane Otis hits the southern Pacific coast of Mexico. It brought dangerous winds and heavy rain to Acapulco and nearby cities. Extensive destruction destroyed almost the entire city. Many of the elegant beach hotels looked like broken hulks. More than a thousand cars were damaged. Thousands of windows were broken and furniture was strewn across the streets. Most of the territory remained without electricity. The resort town of nearly a million people still remains almost completely cut off.
