This past week we lost one of the greats, Fredric Jameson. This video is dedicated to his memory and hopefully serves as a brief introduction to some of his key ideas.

When I first came across Jameson's work in my late-twenties, I gained much more clarity when revisiting the work of most other 20th century philosophers. Marxism and Form is crucial, the last chapter/conclusion is his first full explication of dialectical criticism, which although surpassed later really lays the groundwork and helps to understand the origins.

Minha memoria de Jameson remonta aos anos 1980 quando, junto ou ao lado de Jean
Baudrillard e Gilles Lipovetski, se tornou um dos maiores ou mais conhecidos teoricos da condicao pos-moderna. No caso especifico dele, ficaram-me dois conceitos: o do "presente continuo" das atuais geracoes (o que, pessoalmente, me fortaleceu no sentimento de uma naturalizacao da Cultura...) e, na estetica pos-modernista, o conceito de "pastiche" (que tambem interpetrei como sintoma do esgotamento artistico das vanguardas modernistas).
Se nao me engano tambem a ideia de que a ficcao ou o contar estorias seria um a priori (o que, por meu lado, entenderia como a necessidade biografica de dar um sentido completo a vida, entre o nascimento e a morte que a Historia aberta, e sempre revisada pelo presente nao pode satisfazer).
