How wonderful to have that big space. You can't got wrong with led lights. I have two led ceiling lights and what a change from the regular lights in my craft room. I can't wait to see how your new space shapes up. Love your tutorials.

My husband and I are close to finishing my 14'x24' "She Shed" for my quilting and craft space. It's been so much fun figuring out the space! I too would say to put in lots of power plugs both at counter height and down by the floor. We put in zoned LED can lights and they work great at lighting up the space. Because we live in the high desert in Oregon, we also installed a ceiling fan. We have also installed a portable air conditioner for those hot summer days! Enjoy the adventure!

Do a smooth floor. I have large tiles and a roll chair gets into the grout lines and is a true pain. Love your new to be set up. Similar to mine. As you are planning do stations. It really works well.

I have no idea how to design your room but what you said makes a lot of sense. Looking forward to seeing what you do and seeing all your 'before/after' photo's & video's - good luck :)

So much fun to see the "before". Have read lots of good comments about lighting, etc. I haven't seen much regarding storage, which I think is a major consideration (all that fabric & notions etc we all seem to have). Good luck with this project and thanks for sharing with us.

To hide my bins of fabric, I had designed a large cabinet. The top half had deep shelves that were sturdy enough to hold the baskets of fabric three across. The top two shelves were covered with two long doors. And the same on the bottom half. There was a two shelf bookcase in the middle with more big storage under that. The right side had the same as the left and I stored the big cone threads and Al the clear containers with my sewing attachments were in reach. It also held 12 shoe box size patterns. The shelves were about 2 feet in depth. At seating level was a large desk so I could put all 3 machines ready to sew. Under the table were more spaces with no shelves just like a big box with doors. When all doors were closed it looked like a big wall to wall cabinet. I could use that room for an extra bedroom and no one saw all the supplies needed to sew. I also learned a giant mirror against the opposite wall that couldn't be seen unless you closed the door. It was in a 10 by 12 room with one window a twin bed table lamp, and an upright dresser and small night stand. I still had some dancing room in the middle of it.

I hope you get exactly what you would like. Sounds like you have some firm ideas that will be great, like the ironing station!! I’m planning on making my sewing area a better place also! I’m not such a visionary though, so it’s a slow process for me. I think lightning is a priority!

Ohhh exciting 👏👏...it’s going to be interesting watching the development. A small bar fridge to keep cold drinks available on hand has been a wonderful convenience for me. I have a coffee station on top and use the fridge door as a memo board with cute magnets. Have fun Laura 😘💐

White for the walls, so the light bounces all around and no matter what color quilt you're working on, it looks fresh and sunshiny. This is exciting. I LOVED your old space and cannot wait to see your upgrades!!

Oh my goodness!! What a wonderful space!!! Your basement has such high ceilings!! I find for me that having “up lighting” works wonders for me. My ceiling is painted stark white and i have torchiere lights and sconces with daylight led lights that reflect off of the ceiling and spread the light everywhere without being harsh on my eyes. Since you have such high ceilings you could even do an uplight chandelier in the center of the space as well as well placed pot lights, faux crown moulding with uplighting encased in it or you could set photographers lighting in the corners of your room (the reflective umbrellas with the lights aimed at them again so you get the bright light without the harshness of direct light.
Also I would recommend a small wall space with ikea peg board to hang many things from. Such as cutting rulers, rotary cutters, anything you might use on a small roll like paper towels, ribbons, or the like. I can’t wait to see what you do with it!! I have a small pressi area but i also have a huge pressi big surface that I made with an Ikea Table top a few layers of batting, a few yards of cotton and a staple gun. I iron all of my freshly washed yardage and my quilts on it. It works wonders. Mine is portable but You could make an even larger one that is also movable but not portable by putting two eight unit kallax together back to back and attaching the wheels you can buy for them and then attaching two of the table tops together with two metal straps on either end (get at the hardware store) and then making the ironing surface the same as i did and placing on the top of the kallax unit. Use four small L brackets to attach the top to the kallax and voila a storage space for yardage or bolts or anything else and a giant ironing surface 7or 8 feet long by 4 feet wide. Hope you like some of my ideas. If not thats cool too. Just cant wait to see what you do with all of that beautiful space!!!

I am in the process of building out my new sewing space. I incorporated Alexa into it and it’s a game changer. I have my light switches, sewing machines, and my iron all hooked up to her. I have it set up so I can turn on everything with one command or just one or a few of the things. When I’m done for the night I say “Alexa, turn off the sewing room”. Everything turns off including the iron. I love it.

So exited for you!!! 😊 You know what you need and like more then us, but I do have one suggestion... I would want my cutting and sewing area in the window area the natural light is the best!!! Your desk and sitting area can go anywhere and still be ok!!! Good luck and enjoy the journey!!!🙏🏻🧵🙏🏻

Wonderful ideas for your new sewing space. I can’t wait to see the finished product. What a lucky girl you are! I have a large TV mounted in the wall above my cutting table so I can watch good sewing videos on YouTube, especially yours so I can watch them over and over. I also have great lighting in my basement sewing room and a small coffee/ tea area with an electric tea kettle and refrigerate that was moved from upstairs. My sewing room is so fun and cheerful and has two huge design walls that my husband built for me. It’s my happy place or woman cave. I’ve even asked for a doorbell outside the room since I get so engrossed in my sewing that all of a sudden my husband or kiddos are standing close and I didn’t hear them coming and I jump. Anyway I love, love love your videos and can’t wait to see your fabulous new sewing space! Have a very blessed day!

Oh Laura that is SO exciting! I too, will be changing up my sewing room in a year or so. What is your square footage, roughly? Yes, lots of pot lights- maybe there are great hanging lights for over a table coming off the ceiling? I am planning mine with Kallax shelving from Ikea. In all the sewing rooms I've seen, I love these. And most importantly, put MORE plugs in than you think you need. If you change your mind in a year, you can still move things around and be ok for power! Good luck and enjoy!! 💗
