There are actually many varieties of aloe vera farmed and used to produce aloe vera products. After planting, large leaves are usually harvested from the bottom of the plant at specific times of year, leaving the newer leaves to grow for later harvesting.

Sadly, a ton of "aloe vera" products don't actually contain any of the plant at all. You actually have to read the ingredients and even look up lab tests.
